As of Wednesday 24th July cycling is  prohibited on the Paseo Maritimo in Los Alcazares, did anyone know this was happening???

I can understand and sympathise  during the busy Summer months,  but after September the place is virtually empty, so what's the problem? Had they made these exclusions and maybe a speed limit  restiction that would seem fair to both pedestrians and cyclists . Some prior discussion  and information would have been wellcome too.

Oh no - please tell  me this is not true!

Perhaps, they will improve the existing cycle lanes. They are in such poor condition and cars park on them all the time.

Hi,

I am trying to contact one of our local councillors  to see  if she can get any information  from the Ayuntamiento about this sudden restiction and I will update the site if I obtain  any further details. Maybe they could restrict the cyclists only in the busy Summer months and then after September  through to May we could use the Paseo, as the place is so quiet? ?? Let's see if there is flexibility  to accommodate we residents in the future,  I  certainly  hope there is a fair outcome to this issue soon.

Although most cyclists will not agree, a cycle is a vehicle, so should be only ridden on a road, on the correct side, in the correct direction, and obeying all the traffic laws that cars should.

Does this apply to scooters, manual or electronic  and what about disabled transport and older people on three wheeler bikes  with or without motors, you don't expect them to take to the roads  amongst the summertime traffic do you?? Surely common sense must prevail?? We have been cycling along the promenade  for over 2 years without incident and only early in the mornings when even in the height of summer, very few pedestrians are around .

As they are proceeding at a slow and careful pace, and are providing entertainment and interest for many people, of course it is ok!

Good question, surely this is more dangerous to the pedestrians than a few cyclists,  who for the main take care and only use the Paseo when it's quiet.?

Don get me wrong i love all these festivities, and dont mind the horses at all i like that and i am frontline to the sea but some common sense should prevail, have the cycle restriction for the summer season but change it for the winter, i can see the point in congested holiday season but winter is very quiet here and cycle residents are very responsible as i have seen, as i said i live on the seafront. Remember this will have a big impact on the seafront bars and small restaurants and shops They rely heavily on passing trade. many have bought property to enjoy cycling the promenade.. I know quite a few. So lets see some common sense.

I agree completely about lifting the restrictions after the Summer season, once the holidaymakers  have gone home, the seafront is deserted and the regular trade brought to the bars by the few remaining pedestrians and cyclists  help to keep these businesses afloat  through the winter time.

Let's hope  our councillors  see reason and lift these restrictions  for the winter and spring seasons.
