Hi everyone, I'm writing to thank people on this site for their advice on transferring money to our sabbadel account. We opened and did our first transfer with transferwise( soon to be just wise) yesterday. All done in minutes and no €18 charge! Now I've got the app it will be very convenient. We intend to find a different bank when we can get out to spain again.

Thanks again for the information.

Hi Steve, we're also with Sabadell and have been charged €18 a month since January. Last year we had to pay in €700 a month which used to keep the monthly charge low but they're now taking the €18 on the 1st of the month. How did you manage to avoid that charge if you can't transfer the monthly amount before the 1st? We're in the same boat as you of being stuck in the UK. I look forward to hearing from you.

We downloaded the wise app filled in relevant fields, very quick and easy, and that was that. Next you just pay in the amount you need to transfer and the money was in the sabadell account within minutes. It is also possible to pay direct debits through wise, although we haven't done this yet we are going to look into doing so this weekend (Easter). It acts like a money transfer, we always used money Corp but we get a much better rate with wise and it also compares other sites rates. At the moment we are very impressed. Hope this helps. I will tell you how we get on this weekend.

Thanks, Steve, for taking the time to reply and I would be very interested to hear how you get on at the weekend. It sounds like we need to start using Wise. We have been using Revolut and I'm not sure why we're being charged with them as they've moved to Europe but maybe it's the same as is happening with Currencies Direct that someone else mentioned and it needs to be fought with the banks.

Have a good Easter.

Hi Helena,

I've been looking at the wise app and it looks like you use like a back  but online. I think you need to open a euro account, it gives you IBAN,account numbers etc, there is a one off payment of £5 for a debit card. Then you can set up direct debit payments in and out of the account. The only snag i see is that you need to set up direct debit payments to electricity and water companies when you are in Spain.

It looks like a good way to cut out sabadell, I would like to speak to someone in person if possible.

Hope this helps, Steve.

Hi Steve, thanks once again for taking the time to reply to me. You've been very helpful and the Wise account sounds like a good idea. We'll look into it further.

Best wishes, Helena
