Are u  an EU member ? If so you are prpbably covered, your embassy would know. We are Canadian and have to buy our own .

If you are under pensionable age and you were resident before I think March 2012 you qualify for free healthcare, we got it that way but if not you can now pay into their system I think is costs 60 euros per month and it entitles you to free healthcare including pre existing conditions.  The only thing you do not get is reduced prescriptions ie we only pay 40% and you would have to pay all of it till you reach pension age.   Hope this helps

Hi,

There are a lot of misconceptions about healthcare in Spain and plenty of inaccurate and out of date information due to most Ex Pat situations being different ie Newly Resident /Long term Resident/Employed in Spain/Retired/Not Retired/ Receiving state or personal pension in Spain or not etc. Also some of the rules have changed in recent months.

There is a website here that can explain the different up to date options:

http://healthcareinspain.eu/living-in-spain/#questionnaire

Hope this helps.

we are Canadian also , but I can not a definate answer as to weather we can also get free Health Insurance. The Spanish have extended it to illegal immigrants , so why not legal Canadians ?
