Hi all.

Has anyone out there just sold their home in the UK and bought in Spain after the deadline of DEC 2020.

The question I would like the answer to is, did you get taxed twice when you did it.

Hope you can help,, as I could pass info on to my friend.

G.

Your friend really needs to take advice from a tax specialist here in Spain. It will depend on when they become tax residents and when in the year. they sell their house. We very nearly caught a cold because of bad advice. Hope this helps

It will also depend on whether they have applied for the appropriate visa to be able to relocate to Spain, if that's their intention and they are British citizens! Selling up and moving to Spain over is no longer a free option for Brits and potential immigrants must show proof of their income, health-care, and many other things before they can be issued with the appropriate visa. All this must be done before they plan to arrive too, so applications should be made in the Spanish Embassy.

Information is also available on the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain's website and also on personal experiences on several recent threads on this forum.
