This is a message for all those holiday homers who, like me, are stuck in the UK with no idea when you will next get out to enjoy your place. Are you all paying your utility bills (i.e. water & electricity)? Have any of you considered having or actually had your water and electricity cut off albeit temporarily until you can return to Spain. I'm with Iberdrola who have sent numerous messages during the pandemic advising customers that they are there to help and advise if needed. I'm considering contacting them to enquire about being cut off but before I do I just wondered if anyone already has.

Stay safe everyone and let's hope it won't be too long before we can enjoy our places again.......... but I'm not holding my breath!!

If you do get anything cut off make sure you know how much reconnection costs could be (and how long it might take), and that it does not affect your house insurance. If the rules change on e.g. electricity you may have to get a fresh boletin with any work needed before they would reconnect.

Hi, I echo everything Peter has said, this question has been asked before and general concensus was don't cut off your services just because of inability to visit. You have now been able to visit since 24th May so why not visit as soon as possible before anything changes to sto you. Remember as a UK resident even if restrictions apply to difficulty returning to UK nothing can stop you returning to your country of residence. Btw, I looked up your previous posts and you have asked for banking in Spain with lower costs. I can highly recommend opening an account with Cajamar bank who have a "weferrent account" online use, no fees even for non residents. I have been using for 3 years+ and had no fees at all. You can use their atm to deposit cash,  and withdraw cash. Visit their website but you can only open in branch.

Regards

Thanks to both who have replied so far. Yes, I am aware of the possible pitfalls of cutting off electricity and/or water and will bear this in mind. And to Pauline, I am aware of the Cajamar account but as you say, I can't open it until I get out there. I could come out but I'm not prepared to take any chances until Spain is back on the Green list.

With all the changes of varients etc, you may have a long wait and as I see it the only differrence between now and some time in the future when Spain becomes a green country is the cost of tests and quarantine. As there is no possibility of doing 2x visits of 90 days this year we,ve decided to go end of August to end of Nov with high hopes of our usual March/June and Sept/Nov 90 days visits next year. We're hoping by Nov this year tests  on return will have changed, quarantine not important as we are pensioners. Pleased to hear you are considering Cajamar, it can be quite daunting changing bank accounts in Spain, totally differrent to switch in UK. I hope you get out soon.

I don't think it's a very good idea at all all having your services cut off.

You will have to pay a reconnection fee and it could be 2 or 3 months before they actually connect things back up.

So not really a very good idea I don't think.

Hi, I know it's difficult, but I say go for it even as Spain is Amber. We got back to our property a couple of weeks ago after 7 months and thank goodness we did. The only real difference between Green and Amber is one more PCR test and quarantine and, although I very much understand there is more cost involved and returning UK restrction, on balance it was worth it for us, even though we both work in the UK.  I do not think at all the UK government will move anywhere popular to Green soon as they have, I feel, a completly hidden agenda and this will go on for years. Life is too short and if you are double vaccinated and are Covid respectful to everyone around you, I'd urge you to book that flight! 🤞

It is now a lot safer here than the UK.

You have a doubling of the new Indian variant, its worse than the others, and the UK is showing great concern over this.

Already  the UK has said now July until lifting of restrictions, that shows they are very worried.

At the end of the day, whether you are in your holiday home or not makes no real difference to your outlay. The amount you would spend on consumption of power and water would be the same, just that you would spend it in the UK when there, and Spain when there.

Many thanks to all who have responded. Some very interesting points to consider, especially that made by Peter C.

Stay safe
