Hello,

our pool filter is set to come on between 1/5pm which is when electric is at its most expensive…..my question is, is it OK for me to reset to earlier/later in the day or is it necessary to have the filter running during daylight and when it is hottest, perhaps something to do with the algae?

Thanks.

Set it to come on whenever you like.

We have ours set for one hour in the early morning and one hour just before dusk and we re-set the clock when the clocks go back or forward. We were told that it was better to filter the pool when people aren't using it and not when the sun is full on the water. During high summer, we add another hour onto each session.

Our filter is set to run 8 hours a day which seems an awful lot compared to yours…. I’m going to change it…..and hopefully it’ll be ok…thanks

Changed ours when new electric charges came in to 7am till 10am. Pool cleaner was ok with that and it's been fine.

Hi there,

The length of time your pool pump comes on depends on a lot of factors, the main one being the volume of water you have. For example, my pool is approx. 9 x 5 metres, making it around 80,000 litres. In these temperatures I keep it on for about 7 to 8 hours a day, but not in one stretch. 2 hours would never be enough for a pool this size.

I have recently changed my thinking on pump times since I followed what they do in places like Arizona.

I now put the pump on for 4 hours in the morning, from 4am to 8am and then for 3.5 hours later on. So 4 hours on the cheapest rate is good for me.

I know the chlorine needs the sun to work but then huge amounts just evaporate. I have decided that my pool has never been in better condition.
