Hola   I have for some time  sparrows nesting in a water (rain) outlet   off a terrace

I fear they may block the pipe and water gets into the house

Questions      (1) when do they stop nesting   and fly away

                       (2)  can anyone  help remove nest  so the birds use the new box

                      (3) where can I buy two nesting boxes  and any one to fix them to the side of house

I don't live there yet Dave, but if they are like our UK & Irish sparrows which I'm sure they they are, they'll start nesting anytime now (recognised  from1st March here)!!

Have you tried cutting & moulding a piece of 'small holed' chicken wire and clipping it over the outlet, making sure there are no sparrows trapped within though?   You'll know when they start nesting, as they will be very busy moving new nesting materials into it.

Your new nest boxes must be suitable and positioned correctly for (house) sparrows.               Different breeds have different requirements so far as size, shape, location and type & size of hole / access they need.

I feel you may have left it a bit late personally speaking, autumn would be the best time, if you can live with them as it is that is?  They will need  period of time to get used to and accept the new offering.

I'll try to find and attach a good photo of a house sparrow box for you.  Enjoy them for now.

Regards..... Steve.

Sparrows will be nesting very soon but with this cool snap they may not have laid eggs yet. Are you able to check the nest? If you can, and find no eggs, you could block with chicken wire immediately. They will rebuild elsewhere because sparrows here go on laying for many months. I have not seen nest boxes for sale here but you could look on the internet. They are easy to make if you are good at DIY.

For some reason last year a found a few sparrows had died in my water feature. Not sure why, but was around April last year. Still got the water feature but not had any since!

Maybe someone can enlighten me?
