Hi

We are driving from the UK to Spain to live and are bringing our 15 year old cat with us.

We have got his pet passport, he has had his rabies jab, his microchip is all fine, but there was mention that we need to get a non-commercial EU health certificate, does anyone know anything about this please, I've tried to search, but not coming up with much?

Many thanks

Penny

I don't think the certificate applies.

The following link shows all the requirements - albeit isn't laid out in the best way. I think all you need to do, in addition to what you've said you've done is "you or your representative must sign a Declaration of Non-Commercial Transport stating that your pet's transport does not involve the sale or transfer of ownership of your pet."

Hope this helps!

Hi Penny

We have just arrived with our pet cat. We had to get a passport, rabies jab and she was already chipped. We arrived in Spain yesterday, all the checks were carried out UK side. They checked the passport, we had to scan her to check the chip and that was pretty much that. We travelled via Brittany Ferries. Hope this helps.

The same for us last year, UK vets sorted out passports and anti-rabbies shots. We took the ferry to Santander and drove down to Camposol. Only checks done were at the Portsmouth ferry terminal and by the vet here when we registered them here. Hardest bit was putting up with 2 cats meowing in the car for 9 hours 🙀🙀. Oh and the strain on the wallet of course.

Hi Mitch

Thanks for this, we had hoped to travel by ferry ourselves as our cat is very very nervous, but bookings are showing as full up to the end of November :(.

Have you moved to Spain, who knows we may meet you in person one day :).

Hope you don't mind have a couple more questions.

Did you have to sign the declaration of non-commercial transportation?

Did you have to take your own scanner?

Kind regards

Penny

Thanks Phil

Think I'd quite like ours to be meowing, rather than the nervous silence I think we will have :).

Did you have to get the vet to record all other vaccinations in the passport, ours has only put the rabies info?

Kind regards

Penny

Hi Penny

Yes we have now moved to Spain and we were very anxious with our cat as she is a very nervous cat. Our vet advised us to get some Cerenia which is an anti sickness tablet which is also a slight sedative. She was an angel and we were amazed as she is usually a nightmare just going to the vets.

Anyway, we did not have to sign the declaration and the scanner was handed to us to scan, we don't have a scanner.

Hope this helps

Mitch
