Ok, so what do you need to take with you to obtain a padron, I took Escritura, NIE, passport, kitchen sink, guess what I came away without one...…..I had not taken my water contract, this is about my 20th padron and never been asked for that.

I don't understand the 20th Padron part of this. But we bought in San Pedro del Pinatar(Murcia). For our first Padron, we took everything you did plus prove of ownership(Utilities bill, deed...) We ended losing or misplacing the Padron. 1 year later, we went back, explained what happened. All they asked for this time was the NIE papers. Gave us another Padron free of charge and hassle. Couldn't believe how smooth it went! So if you're requesting a copy of a previous Padron, you should already be in the system with no need for all these other papers! Only the NIE and any other ID.

I've been here 14 years and when I first moved here I was told you need to re new padron every 3 months so like a good boy I did what I was told that is until I got wise, you live and learn, I moved to this area last September so I thought it was time I did the decent thing, but no jobsworth at La Tercia said no not without your water contract, I think he was a little peeved because he had to come out of the bar to deal with me although he did bring his vino tinto with him to the office, ah well there lose i'll go to Torre Pacheco when I can be arsed

I get it now. Thank you. I didn't know one has to renew Padron. This, no one told us. Next time they bring vino to the office while attending you, ask for a glass, pour you some and join the party. Lol just kidding(Not really) I know how frustrating  it can get. Boy do hubby and I have stories to tell! Just hang in there. Thanks again.

The registration on the padron should be renewed every five years though this can vary from area to area. An Ayuntamiento may send out a notice to all its registered citizens telling them to come and renew their registration if they are trying to increase the number of folk on their list to get more subsidy from government for schools, police health centres etc.

The certificate, that you need to show for instance to buy a car, or register as a foreigner is valid for three months, so you only need a new certificate if you are doing something like that.

Not going to get into a row but what you say may well be true but I have bought 3 cars in 14 years 2 from Spanish garages and 1 from Belgium owned and never been asked for one, typical Spanish they make a law but only want to enforce it when it suits

It is not the law, but an easy way for a garage to get an official ID with address etc so many will ask for it.
