Good evening everybody. My wife, Andrea and I, are looking to move to Calasparra as soon as this nightmare is over with. We are both in our early 50s and will be retiring once we arrive after a long career in the Forces, me, and Andrea NHS A&E sister. We visited campasol last year but think Calasparra suits our requirements more. We are looking forward to getting involved in the local community and really enjoying the countryside both on foot and two wheels. If anyone has any advice for our move we would be extremely happy to hear from you.  Best wishes Martin and Andrea

Good morning Martin and Andrea

We dont live in Calasparra but we have been there several times and it looks a lovely place to settle.

Melvyn and I belong to a walking group in the region of Murcia, and several members live in Calasparra.

You might be interested in joining us when, as you say, all this is over!

Our walking agenda this year has been severely curtailed ... and walking usually ceases in May anyway because of the heat but hopefully we will begin again in September/October. Let me know if you would like any details.

Like yourselves, we looked at Camposol, and very nearly bought there. There is a great community spirit there.

But we also decided we wanted something different. I cant say its been easy, in fact sometimes we have been in the deep-end as our Spanish is very bad! (muy malo!) We are in our mid 60s, so learning doesnt come as fast as if we were younger! But we are trying. We live amongst fields of apricots, lemons, oranges, olives, almonds, figs, pommegranates ... its wonderful. We wake up to the sounds of birds, chickens, roosters and dogs! I love it.

Hope you will be as happy as we have been.

Trish and Melvyn

Hi Martin & Andrea

You could not look for a nicer place to live if you are into activities such as walking & cycling - I do both !

We have lived here for 12 years and is a lovely peaceful place to call home.  We live on one of the Urbanisations, have you seen anything that you would like to buy or are you going to rent.  Urbanisation or Campo ?

The towns people are very friendly, there are loads of Bars, Restaurants & Cake shops to keep all of us satisfied.

Surrounding towns & villages are very popular for shopping and also the above.

We have a Consum Supermarket which stocks some English products and a DIA with an equally varied product range albeit Spanish orientated.

As the previous replier says about Walking, I belong to a group called WARM who cater for all nationalities and abilities.  There is no official Cycling Club in Calasparra though a lot of the Spanish lads do go out in Groups. I tend to go "solo" or with a couple of other guys who are into their biking - MTB or Road - both good quality roads which are fairly quiet and Mountain Tracks to get the legs & heart going !!!

There are a number of ex Military here - me being one - and there is a branch of the British Legion in the next town, tho' I tend not to get involved in the activities.

That's a brief rundown on Calasparra and if you want to Private Message me, by all means do so and I will try to help with any other quiries you may have.

Take care.

Hi, my husband,Simon, and I have just bought in La Canada, Calasparra, unfortunately just as the lockdown began! We are currently in the UK waiting to visit ASAP but are planning to move out permanently this time next year. Looking forward to meeting everyone then.

Karen and Simon.

I am sure you will enjoy your time here. Did you buy on Valle del Sol or Canada Verde ?

Calasparra is not fro everyone. It is very Rural with perhaps not a lot of entertainment as on the coast but the Townspeople are very friendly, there are plenty of bars & restaurants and quite a few attractions to keep people busy.  Bull running and Fiestas take place in the 1st week of September with a few other Fiestas taking place throughout the year.  Local Village of Valentin also has its Fiestas as does the near local towns of Caravaca, Cehegin, Moratalla, Mula & Bullas. There is a shop in Cehegin that stocks some English products and Iceland is around 1hr 20mins away for theose extrta special treats !     3 main Urbanisations, Coto Rinales, Canada Verde & Valle del Sol.  The 1st 2 are private and command Community fees whereas the last is maintained by the town Hall so do not incur those charges often found on urbanisations.  The only bars on any of these 3 are on Valle del Sol and are quite popular with Bingo, Quizzes and social events taking mainly in The Alandalus, mainly because of it size. Here, Alfonso serves basic food and his BBQ'd steaks are very popular.  The Tiatanium next door, provides a more intimate atmosphere with a great chef producing some amazing dishes.  There are plenty of walks, cycling tracks in the countryside and the roads are a lot quieter here for the road cyclist.  Quite a few of the Calasparra residents who like walking have joined a local walking group with many nationalities.   Murcia city is less than an hour and the new Corvera is around an hour away as well.  The Nuevo Condomina shopping centre is 45 - 50 minutes away.  There is a Medico Salud with the nearest Hospital being in Caravaca de La Cruz - 25 minutes away.  If there is anything else you would like to know Noel, send me a message.  Do you want to buy or rent(short or long term ?).
