Can anyone advise how to cancel the agricultural water supply to our olive grove in Calasparra. After harvesting the olives and deducting expenses we rarely have a profit. We are at the stage now where it is not economical to continue paying for agricultural water. Can anyone advise the procedure for terminating the supply.

Can't you go to the people you pay the agricultural water bill to?

We went to the office and were told they couldn’t do this. We were given the impression that we could not cancel but surely this is not correct. We don’t know where to go to next.

It´s my belief that you can´t but check with an abogado.

As far as I know, land is legally designated as irrigated (regadio) or dry (secano) and the land is valued accordingly. I´m pretty sure that this is stated on your escritura.

I´m guessing that you have access to an acequia to bring the water to you. Even if you choose not to use it, it is there and adds value to your land.

A neighbour had this argument with the management of our acequia, he even concreted up his gates (tablachos) but still lost the argument!

Oh dear - seems a bit harsh!  Good luck with trying to solving the problem.

We had the exact same query. We went to see them and were told that it is compulsory to have this water if you have land in this area. You are not permitted to use the normal water supply for watering outdoors. Everyone that has land has to have this supply. We use it for everything now. Garden plants, swimming pool top up, even for flushing the loo sometimes 😄

Thanks to everyone for their replies. The latest information from Maria2210 confirms what we suspected. We are stuck with paying the annual bills! The only way to benefit from this is make full use of the supply, not just watering the olive grove. As suggested, our garden will benefit as will many other areas around the property. Again, thank you to everyone for their useful replies and advice. P
