I hoped to move to Spain next year from the UK. I'm finding some horrible stuff online from gov websites which suggests my dreams have been shattered.

Does anyone know what will be my position next year. As a non EU citizen I can only assume I will be no different from say a Canadian wanting to come.

Not to sure what horrible things you are referring to..but if it's the likes of needing a private health care policy if you are under UK pension age ...or needing a income that will support you in Spain ..as you must not become a burden on the Spanish Tax payers then you are on the right track this has been inforce for many years in Spain ..I think the amount required to apply for Residence is around €6,000 per year disposable income per person at the moment but apparently this is going to rise this year to what figure I don't know...I have also read that after the transition period next January ..the UK government will no longer pay for a OAPs health care that decided to move to  Spain after next January..but they will continue to pay for the existing UK nationals that have took up residence in Spain before the end of the transition period... personally I think if you are a ducker and a diver living on you Whit's in Spain then your luck has run out.

Agree.

No promises for UK-paid healthcare for pensioners retiring here and gaining Residency after 2020. Allow 2000 Euros per year per person for Private Healthcare/Convenio Especial.

Post-Brexit income requirement seems likely to increase to 24k Euros per annum (32k per couple).

Any minimum disposable income increase won't take effect untill 1st Jan 2021. It all stays as it is during transition period.  However, nothing else is certain after this date, and yes, guess it will be much tougher!!

If the restrictions announced this week, Feb 16th, by the UK government on EU immigrants to the UK are reciprocated, it doesn't look good. Start learning Spanish!
