To put the fees in perspective, if you were entitled to be covered by the UK they would pay €3500 per year for each of you to be registered and treated by the Spanish health service, so €275 a month.

The amount quoted is true.. But it is only available to UK citizens of pensionable age...not the early retired....if you are in Camposol at the moment the swimming pool shop next to the Chinese bizarre has a advert in the window for private Health care.

My point was that you should expect to have to pay that sort of fee - more if you have existing conditions - any less and I would be scrutinising the cover very carefully.

Sorry to OP as I’m hijacking this thread but keeping it on topic, just as a matter of interest if any of you guys are living 50/50 UK/Spain do you have private health care ? Personally me and my hubby don’t have it.

I am only 55 years old and am hoping to retire to Spain asap. I have read that to live in Spain for over 90 days I hav to apply for residency. For this I have to prove that I will not be a burden to the Spanish system financially and that I have health cover. I understand this, but is £144 per month really a reasonable amount to pay until I reach UK retirement age? Does anyone have any better ideas of where to get insurance?

Any help would be much appreciated
