Hi all,

A question for everyone everywhere, not just Camposol. When moving to Spain, how did you manage to have all your medical history transferred to your new doctors practice. Is a question of simply asking your UK practice for it all and bringing it with you. If under pension age, and therefore not entitled to Spanish healthcare how do you go about finding the best value for money health insurance. Paul

private health insurance ..cost is based on previous ailments ...if you are as fit as a butcher's dog and had no previous health problems .. then you can expect to pay around €200 per month per person you will need this in place before you apply for Spanish residency... when you have been accepted as a resident after 12 months from being accepted you can the go on the Spanish NHS system ..this will cost you approximately €80 per month... please take note you will need to provide details of you income and so on before you are accepted as a resident ...I think you need a income of around €700 per month.. per adult in the house hold ...per couple this would be €1,400  per month...to live on...all this info is freely available on the internet.

400 euro a month per couple!! Really. That's for someone as fit as a butchers dog. That's extortionate. I was under the impression most people move to Spain to retire. That amount of insurance would take a huge chunk out of any pension payments people receive. Even having to prove an income of 1400 euro a month per couple seems a lot. These forums regularly state how a couple can live on a modest income in Spain compared to the UK. I appreciate your reply but if the insurance costs are what you say then I'll be staying where I am. This is Spain...if you are of UK pensionable age you don't need private Health care...but you need a income of around €700 per month per person to live on to apply for a residence...and believe me a single person would struggle to get by on €700 per month when you start factoring in all the bills you need to pay it would only leave a small amount for food think about it .

Try a comparison web site for some clarity.

Rastreator is site to do a comparison. It's in Spanish but google can translate.

Get a quote and use it to see where you are.

For me, if I was reasonably happy with that, I would then speak to an English speaking provider locally and use the quote to keep them competitive. Alternatively , once you have a quote get a reputable translator to ring the provider and qualify the quote.

Hope that helps

Again FF is giving information which I should check. Also is he a resident in Spain? Look back on his many posts, he travels back and forward.

Mr Edd ...you don't need to be a resident of Spain or any other country ..to have private Healthcare...think about it.

I don’t know, but getting a quote from any comparison web site will give you a good guide and keep the quotes you get reasonable.

And the one I detailed is Spanish.

Don’t give up on your dream too quickly, do your research first, it may not be as bad as some people have indicated. ( bearing in mind I don’t know your personal circumstances)

I used them for home insurance and car insurance and then spoke to another insurer.

They said the sites on the comparison web site don’t speak English, which was a valid point for me, but they dropped their quotes on both by €100 EACH ONE,in seconds!!!

Thanks everyone for your speedy response. I'll do my research. 400 a month seemed a rip off. Paul

We are in a similar position and earlier this year my first quote was just under €5000pa for a couple. I got a second quote at €2830pa. It’s certainly a factor for us.
