What you need now & what you need for a flight to & from Spain in May will be completely different.

Nobody knows as thing change on a daily basis.

You don't need a visa, but as Roland has said, anything else can change

At the moment tourists are banned until 30th March. This keeps getting extended so just keep an eye on updates. The covid committee normally meet on a Monday and decide on any changes which normally get officially announced on a Wednesday

There is, of course, no guarantee that you are allowed to travel from the UK in the first place !    Secondly there is a ban on UK residents entering Spain at the moment (which will probably be extended as a 3rd wave is being spoken about on the continent). The only way you can enter is if you have Spanish residency and the green document to prove it.  Upon arrival a few weeks back, we had to show this along with our UK passport and they ran the NIE number through their system before we were allowed to proceed. I need to emphasise that having an NIE number does not mean you have residency.

Then have you though about Spain being added to the red list if the 3rd wave hits Europe and you have to go into one of those isolation hotels for 10 days upon return ?

Right now, you can't / shouldn't travel:

  1. You would be breaking Lockdown rules, as foreign travel, apart from very specific reasons is not allowed. Visiting family or taking a holiday are not included in those reasons.
  2. Your carrier (airline) needs you to complete a form confirming that your reason to travel is legally permissible - which visiting family or taking a holiday are not.
  3. There is an ongoing FCO advice against 'all but essential travel', so any normal travel insurance will be invalid (this is a general exclusion). Even companies that are now offering cover against Covid-related issues will not include this. There are a few specialist companies (e.g. Battleface) that will cover trips against FCO advice though.
  4. There is a ban on UK citizens entering Spain, unless they are a returning resident, which you are not.
  5. I assume by 'Covid jabs' you mean that you have been vaccinated. However, even if you have, you would need negative PCR tests taken within 72 hours before entering Spain.
  6. You don't need a visa to visit Spain.
Things may change, but May is only 6 weeks away, so many of the above restrictions may well still be in place.I would suggest you wait until the rules change.Hope this helps!

Hi Kelvin,

The best way to find out what you need to do, is to go to www.gov.uk.  Rules seem to be changing quite a lot but you should find up-to-date info on that website.

Good luck!
