Having just received our electric bill from Iberdrola, I felt I had to remark about how fed up we are being ripped off by Iberdrola.  Our electric usage was 21 euros but our bill is for 53 euros for the month.  Its bad enough that we have to pay a contracted usage but this is taxed at 21%.  How can this be fair?  This is making us have second thoughts about keeping our holiday home on Camposol. We were only there for 2 weeks out of the billing period covered.

We were also paying 5.99 euros a month for insurance/breakdown that we had not asked for. We went to iberdrola in mazzaron port and asked them to remove it, which they did on the next bill.

You should check what KW tarrif you are on.

As you pay a higher standing charge the higher your available supply. (Regardless if you use it)

I have a 5kw tarrif (the meter supply only 5kw total draw)

And it is much cheaper.

Also consider if you had a prepay electric meter in the uk. The standing charge is normally over £1 a day

Just buy lots of wine beer and Tabbco whilst. Eating out in the 320 days of sunshine. And realise how much per week you save !!!

The electric company is goverment owned!!

If you think having a holiday home used a few times a year contributes to the Spanish govmemt tax coffers to such a degree that you require lower electric bills...............

Then perhaps you should reconsider having a holiday home.

Rant over.

I am Just fed up of people moaning. And not even living here ...

We just expect it to be fair. We do not pay a contracted fee in uk. We just pay for what we use and a small standing charge. Our electric bill is much less. We are not taxed at 21% for electricity that we do not use!

The standing charge for a UK pre paid gas / electric   meter is 29p per day ...not a £1 per day electric / water standing charges on Camposol includes your rubbish collection ...if you think you electric is expensive have a look at your water bill even when you do not use a drop it is still full price..  make sure you have made standing orders for your electric & water meter if you fail to pay the bill your meter will be removed and cost approximately €500 to have them re installed

We do pay by standing order. It does seem a bit much to pay for water and electricity we don't use. We are with the parent company in uk - Scottish power and don't pay as much. We pay council tax to have the bins collected

We have only recently bought our house (end of last year) and the utility bills are a bit of a shock to be honest. I've only stayed in the house once (for 4 days). It's much cheaper in the UK for utilities. However, my council tax is a lot higher in the UK. It probably works out the same overall for utilities and council tax. I don't regret buying a place in the sun. Best thing we ever did.

Yes the council tax is much cheaper. Its just the fact that we have to pay 21% tax on contracted electric that we don't use.

I believe there is free market here.  As yet I've not investigated alternative suppliers.  Has anyone any experience of changing?
