Hi Kassie,

You don't say if this is for a short stay or for ever but your UK vet will know what is needed.

You are quite right about the rabies jab and the dogs must be micro - chipped.

All the usual things you would normally book your dogs in for at home are needed in Spain also, but there are a couple of others that may be recommended by a Spanish vet once you are here.  Depends on what bugs or germs are doing the rounds.

The only other bother is if you take the dogs back to the UK they will need a wormer given by the vet and documented here, up to 3 days before going through customs etc.

(Best to have it done here than nearer the ports as prices tend to be higher there.)

I hope this helps to put your mind at ease. and remember  -  it is far easier to leave the UK than it is to get back so if you plan to stay just do it and then relax - and good luck!

All the best

Lyn and Flossy (my dog)

Thanks so much for the info, we are coming to stay end of April, and will contact the vet on Camposol as to local jabs  pooches may need. My vet told us we may not get stopped on way out. they seem to be more concerned on way in to UK but had to be sure, all are microchipped as well, we may see you around, with Flossie, have a canine convention, Take care keep well, Kassie

Hi Kassie,

Happy to be of help.  Are you coming via Folkstone?

If so, you have to get the dogs checked first then if their paperwork is OK then you go through, sometimes with no more than a wave once they have checked your passports.

There are very nice exercise areas for the dogs and it is fenced off so they don't have to stay on the lead.  (Not so nice at Calais if you are coming back)

We are planning to come over early May with a view to staying this time.

We have a small villa on sector 2c and there are lots of dogs around but nowhere for them to socialise which is a shame as back in UK you meet lots of people walking dogs in parks or on seafront etc.

One really good thing is that if you take the road down to Porto Mazarron there are 2 beaches at either end of the seafront that are dog friendly.  Lots of sand for romps and the Med to cool off in.  Doggy waste bins also.  You will need a sunshade if it's after 10 AM though.

We should make a point of getting together to let the dogs romp.

I hope you have a good journey however you travel

Best wishes

Lyn and Flossy

All you need to enter Spain is Pet Passport, rabies jab & chip. My vet wouldn’t tell me anything said it was for the owner to find out. I took my dog straight to vet here in Spain & got her vaccinated for everything that can harm her here. The jabs we routinely have in the U.K. aren’t required to enter Spain & the Vet here said my dog only needed a booster & not the 2 injections again. We came out via the tunnel & my dogs passport wasn’t even glanced at.

Thanks Shirl. some vets are more helpful than others, We have a balance on 1 of our dogs at the vets so it probably was in their best interest to be more helpful re this matter, other than rabies jab dident know what else, now I do, so thought of this site, lots of help and ideas. nothing beats hands on experience, of people who have done this trip,So thank you again. keep healthy and well, regards Kass
