Hi we are Len & Sandy who have recently purchased a property (initially holiday home) in Camposol.

We understand that there is a dog rescue centre in Camposol who may be interested in volunteer dog walkers who are experienced with large dog breeds.

If anyone could point us in the right direction or put us in contact with the organisation it would be much appreciated

Our next visit is from the 8th of May

Many thanks

Hi welcome

It is the perrera. If you drive towards the port from Camposol you will see it on the right hand side opposite country club. Turn off there and turn right into the service road. Keep going up the bumby road you will then here the dogs barking. Take id. Sessions were Tuesday and Fridays at 9 til 11

We have recently been doing this, found it really rewarding and would recommend it heartily. We have no formal connection with the charity, but wanted to share our experience...

Our understanding is that the perrera is the council-run pound for abandoned dogs. There are approx. 50 dogs there, but the council employees only feed them and clean out the kennels. A charity run mainly by English ex-pats has reached an agreement with the council whereby volunteers can exercise the dogs 9am - 11am on Tuesday & Fridays. Each dog, therefore, receives only about 30 mins of exercise twice a week - but the more volunteers who take part, the longer each dog can potentially get out of the kennels.

The dogs are walked in a circuit around the perimeter of the property (one dog per person) and there are dogs of all shapes, ages & sizes. As the volunteers are typically of retirement age, they have recently been asking for walkers who can handle large, strong dogs. Personally, I found that these dogs are strong and boisterous - and, obviously, very pleased to be out of their kennels - but not aggressive. Although, as I have said, there are dogs to suit everyone. Leads are provided.

There is no commitment, so people who have holiday homes are very welcome to do this when they are over here, just as much as residents who can do this every week. Apart from the desire to exercise these dogs, it's easy-going, but good fitness and walking a dog at your own pace on a lovely fresh morning is a nice way to start the day.

We are residents and we have now adopted a 2 year-old rescued German Shepherd Dog, who we had walked at the perrera, via the charity Friends of Mazarron Animals. We love him and in addition to the feeling of having rescued him, he is paying us back in love, companionship, security and keeping us fit!

If you have the time, please take the opportunity to try this both for the dogs' and your benefit!
