Hi wormwooly.

Not intirerly sure what your asking here.

Are you looking to move out permanant or just holiday.

Either way i would suggest you ask your vet, rspca, and get on to the government a animal protocol of movement of animals between countries.

Hi, to bring a dog into Spain or EU or any travel outside UK. You will need to go to your vets and ask for an EHIC and tell the vet which county and date. First the dog will get a rabies jab costing around £50-70. Then book another appointment one week after the jab for the vet to check the dogs health and to issue an EHIC. Which is the new dog European Health Certificate for animals. It is about 5 pages of writing all printed and completed by your vet. Make sure the vet stamps and signs every page of the EHIC as this can be requested on port entry. The EHIC costs around £120-170. The dog can not travel until 3 weeks after the rabies jab. When you get to port show the EHIC and the dogs vaccination cars to show he is up to date on all jabs. When in Spain go to a vet and ask for a passport for your dog. Tell the vet when you are traveling back to UK and they will give your dog a tape worm tablet 36-24 hours before travel. Cost for passport and health check and tape worm is about 30 euros. After the dog has a Spanish passport you will not need an EHIC again. Hope this helps and Brittany ferris are great kennel facilities

You only need to See your vet as soon as possible and get the ball rolling. Your vet has to be an Official Vet, all, practices don’t have them.   I had to change vets to go to one.  Don’t listen to anyone quoting you a price, they can write their own cheques.    I was charged £648 for one, but that’s too long a story.  There is a man in Portsmouth, if you live near he will be ideal. £99 for your first dog and £50 for every one after that.  Not handy if you live far from him.   You are actually organising an Animal Health Certificate. an. AHC.   You will need the date you are leaving the U.K. and the AHC Must be in the language of the FIRST Country you will enter, not your destination ,ie tunnel France, Ferry Spain /or France This is important.     Your dog will need all normal vacs up to date and a Rabies jab, they will do blood tests to make sure your dog has built up enough antibodies against Rabies. The Spanish authorities don’t require this now, it’s called a titre test, but it’s better that You know your dog is safe . You will get your AHC no sooner than 10 days before you go to Spain or the EU.It is only valid for One trip and only lasts 4 months.    Once there ,get a Spanish passport and you won’t need to jump through the hoops again. Spain wants the rabies boosted every year ,the U.K. one lasts three years (it’s the same vax).  You will however need to get the Rabies booster done on time Every year ,but that may be just a day trip to France if you don’t happen to be going to Spain.  You only need to show the Animal Health Certificate at the Port. It’s very straight forward and a Spanish passport is so cheap and less hassle.  The French have already said ,you must be resident to get a French one , Spain May follow suit, let’s hope not. They ,our govt, should have negotiated an acceptable U.K. passport, after all, all vets were trained under the same EU rules !

An EHIC , (European Health Insurance Card ). is your U.K. health card, nothing to do with dogs   now it’s a GHIC.   Global health insurance card.
