I travel by ferry from Plymouth to Santander with children and family dog. The ferry has good facilities for the dogs, kennels exercise areas and I cool area like wind tunnel at side of ferry to cool dogs down. Always great staff and friendly travellers with their dogs. I usually stop at Pullman hotel near the airport in Madrid, lovely and posh, such great staff and charge €22 per 🐕 dog. Very child and dog friendly, but due to covid you need to pre book use of indoor and outdoor swimming pool. In Santander I stayed at apartments Bahia Boo which also are dog friendly and great walks around the lakes in front of apartment hotel for dogs and children. In Plymouth there are a couple of great dog friendly hotels, cheap rates start at £100 at travel Lodge, also Duke Edinburg is dog friendly at £350 per night.  Double check when booking a hotel that is dog friendly as I have pre booked only to find that it is not dog friendly so best to find hotels on book.com and then phone up hotel to double check. If you have 4 small dogs, it is best for the dogs to book 2 large kennels on the ferry and then you can put two dogs in each kennels, that way they will keep each other company. I love the drive down, amazing views and recommend as a must do

It's not the dogs, it's the owners. Pessimistic

I understand it is now illegal in Spain to house more than 2 dogs at one address.

I would check this out first.

Spain has a massive Barking Dogs problem just Google it to see how people's lives are being ruined

Hi

I live in France have travelled back and forth to UK. We use Brittany ferries, using dog friendly cabin. We used the route Portsmouth to Le Havre but that has now changed to Caen (nice easy ferry terminal)  Brittany ferries give pet owners priority. Dogs must be muzzled until you get to cabin. You follow lift and corridor designated, They have an attendant at end of corridor to give your cabin key. You are in a small corridored area roughly 13 cabins only for pets and owners. Access to small outside area. Also easy access for owners to go down to bar, restaurant and shop obviously pets stay in cabin. You stay in cabins until last minute as ship is docking, muzzles on then the loud speaker once again gives priority to pet owners to get down to vehicles before everyone else. Always been impressed with efficiency.

Hotels in France ......you have to look if pet friendly, we use booking.com but 4 dogs, some might say 2 small dogs max so you need to write to them direct. Some hotel groups like IBIS have very small rooms......how big are your dogs.

Tunnel and car OK but extra hours on the road. Caen gets you further down in France. Also make sure you have a tank of fuel or fill before leaving Caen. Certainly from Le havre there is 100km with no fuel stations on

Hope this helps.

Hi, we travelled Eurotunnel Folkestone to Calais with two dogs and then drove through Francd to Castalla. We had no problems in finding dog friendly hotels, usually an extra charge of about €5 per dog per night.  Check out Booking.com for your dates and dog friendly hotels but be aware some don't have on site parking. We used to spread the trip over 3 or 4 days and enjoyed the journey. On our first trip we made the mistake of being too optimistic as to how far we could drive for each leg - bad idea, better to be realistic, take the toll free roads and admire the scenery.  Stay safe

We are currently in the mazarron area until the end of January. Could anybody tell me the easiest way to get to Bilbao by car. Don't mind paying tolls etc. We avoided them coming here but journey took far too long. Somebody mentioned going through Madrid. Would anybody have other ideas. Thanks in advance.
