We travel twice a year with our dog. We use the A16 into Paris (using a few N roads as well) pick up the A86 then the A10. We then take the A71 onto A75 then the A9. We stop overnight at the Novotel at Narbonne Sud. It allows dogs even in the restaurant. The following day we just follow the A7 & AP7 coast  road all the way down. We only really follow the TomTom, We use the toll roads where possible.

Hi When travelling the Eurostar do you leave your dogs in the car?  Does this take you 2 days , just one overnight stop in hotel?  Is it an easy drive with the help of sat nav.  Thanks

We have been doing this journey now twice a year with our Westie for the past 9 years and find it now quite easy as we now have our regular stop offs on the way. 

We use the Eurotunnel not the Eurostar and you stay in your car with your dog whilst on it,  it only takes around 30 minutes from Folkestone. We always get an early train to get a good head start in France for the journey down, we stop off every 2-3 hours for doggie/coffee breaks. We have quite a long day of driving on the first day (myself and husband share the driving) and we stop off in Narbonne Sud for our overnight stop, this is around 45 minutes from the Spanish border, the second day takes us around 8 hours with stops to get down to the Murcia region.

Just to bear in mind anyone thinking of driving down and going via Paris the French government have launched a new scheme from March 2017 for all cars driving in Paris which includes British registered cars to display an emissions sticker showing the age and cleanliness of your vehicle. If your vehicle does not display the sticker you could face hefty on the spot fines. 

You can only order the sticker online from the official Crit Air website. www.certificat-air.gouv.fr.

How much are the tolls one way ?

You would be better bypassing Paris either to the east or to the west.

In answer to your question regarding toll prices we have a toll tag for France which lets you go through the telepeage (orange sign)  without paying and then they send you a bill via email and take the charge direct from your bank via direct debit. If you google Sanef it'll give you details of how to order one. There are around 6 tolls in France you encounter on the toll roads on the way down so having the tag really speeds up the process as you can be stuck in long queues when having to go through the paying tolls in peak holiday times. 

On looking on my last payment we were charged approx £80 one way for going through France only. When driving through Spain down to the Murcia region we only encounter 2 tolls which costs one way around €45 which we pay as we go as we don't have a tag for Spain. Same payments on our return journey too.
