You are very lucky if Bankia are only charging you 5 euro a month.

I closed my account with them when they tried to put my charges up to 14 euro a month.

Thanks for that Roland.

Never got charged for years, then all of a sudden, charges applied, so went into Los Alcazares branch to question.

They transferred my account to Cuenta on, this was free for a further 12 months with free debit card, then out came 5 Euros a month, like I said I can live with that.

I’m sure now that bank charges will creep up due to the economic climate and of course Brexit in due course, they have us by the short and curly’s  now!!

But there is a lot worse out there, so let’s stay safe and hope for a better 2021, think that’s only going to start around July onwards at this pace!  surely they can’t kill the economy/tourist trade etc much longer after that.

I don't think it is anything to do with Brexit at all.

Many Spanish banks have always charged to receive money.

Sabadell from 1st jan they are charging a minimum of €18 per sterling transaction received as its outside the eu

We get transferwise to bring money over to our account with sabadell (in €) from our account in the Uk, no charge for that. But when we forget and pay for amazon uk items in £ from sabadell there is a non-EU charge applied.

"per sterling transaction" there is your answer - never let the bank do the money exchange. They will charge you for doing it, and the rate will not be good. You can get pension payments sent direct, in Euros, or if not a pension that you are transferring set up a standing order with Currencies Direct or similar to do regular transfers.

The way I read it the transfer was in sterling? A transfer in Euros should attract no charges - if it does then time to change bank.

Please look under banking in this forum - lots of info  i.e. Cajamar Wefferent account

I have tried registering for the Cajamar Wefferent account but it will not accept my NIE (I presume that I should be able to use this when it asks for NIF) nor will it accept my residencia card number. I asked for a 'call back' from Cajamar two days ago and still waiting.  Suggestions welcome.

Assuming you are already a Cajamar client try leaving a message  - best in Spanish so use armeabi or Google translate if not good with the language - on "your personal manager" when signed in on their website. Mine usually responds quickly and is very good, but that is Benamargosa!
