Hi guys I just noticed that CaixaBank has now hit me with a €35 fee, that is quarterly that €140 a year, I only use account for a couple off direct debits and maybe cash now and again when over, when I was with Bankia in Mazarrón I did not pay any fees, spoke with guy in camposol branch and his attitude was Bankia went bust now caixa is your bank so you have to pay, Sorry I don’t have to pay does anyone know free banking in spain, or I might have to use my Irish account to pay my direct debits, and close my caixa account for good, as don’t agree that they charge so much for so little, any sensible advice please.

Use the search box at the top of this page and search for banking and or free banking.

There is lots of information available.

Look at Wise.com and open a Euro account and set up all your direct debits on that account.

You do get a debit card with Wise but unfortunately you will be charged to withdraw cash from an ATM in Spain.

If you really really want a Spanish bank account look at opening a Cajamar Wefferent account.

Have a look at wise.com no charges and you can set up all your usual direct debits and they don’t charge €28 er year for the debit card or the m9nthly fee which Bankia../ Caixia have started . A complete rip off, I don’t know who thought it was a good idea  to go from zero fees to €14 euro a month which Caixia have started to charge,

But fear not if you get house insurance with them ,,,around €340 for a policy you can get for €160 elsewhere you can get “free” banking !

Go online fore wise.com to set up.

Thanks guys, I have downloaded the wise app. And when next over will transfer all my direct debits to them, then good bye bank charges. And also no waiting ages to chat to someone in bank at portue de Mazarrón. So win win thanks.

Also what really gets my goat is that, even if you make an appointment, they still discuss your business at the counter in front of a bank full of disgruntled customers who are queuing (this is Sabadell in the Port who estate agents refer you to when you buy). What happened to confidentiality?

I had Bankia insurance and twice they refused to pay out for water damage, so you have to give two months notice to cancel policy, if not they take another year’s policy out, which they won’t pay out in if you need it, now covered with a better insurance company other than mapre. Should be procedures for non compliance.

Hi, I would advise change all Direct Debits to your Irish Bank and use your Irish Bank debit card when over. That is what we did two years ago  -  as Caixa was just so expensive - and all working well.
