We're stuck in the UK for at least the next couple of months but we are fed up with Caixa (ex Bankia) ripping us off with bank fees, the latest being the €35 quarterly fee.

We want to close this account and move the balance to a Wise EU account we just opened. Has anyone successfully closed their Caixa account remotely and if so how did you do it.

Stay safe

I believe one or two people on here have managed to close their Spanish bank accounts remotely.

All you can do really is find an email address for your bank branch & give it a try.

I think sometimes it is down to the local branch staff.

I would not withdraw all your funds or you might get stung with overdrawn charges if the bank applies account charges.

Hi

I have closed my account with caixa bank remotely a year ago.

First start trough caixa app.

Go to your account and there is a section that gives you the option to start the process to request the closure of your bank account and wait for confirmation from administrator of your bank account.

This will be one of the evidence that you started the process of closing your bank account.

I also have sent him an email requesting my bank account to be closed.

The administrator of my bank account advised me to write a letter where I request the closure of my bank account (wrote the letter in English and Spanish) I signed with the date, I attached the letter to the email and send it to him.

After 2 days he confirmed by WhatsApp message that my bank account has been closed.

When I have checked my bank account to be sure it is closed, there was no where to be found.

But I had to insist a lot.

A month after,  I received a letter from caixa bank to my UK address that my bank account has been closed.

I hope this will help.

All the best

Marcel

I would leave some funds in until you know that all your direct debits are successful at coming out of your new account, otherwise you have nothing to fall back on if any issues arise.

For the sake of an extra €35 it’s not worth the potential headache and potential extra charges if something isn’t set up corr
