Anyone know if there’s a free from fees bank we can open? Just closing down Caixabank. Fed up with constant fees, finding account frozen and all these checks every couple of years which you have to prove incomes etc in person. Using wise now for direct debits but will want a bank account for when we eventually move. Just not one that’s a complete pain in the arse.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Yes Cajamar Wefferent account.

No fees if you use it all online.

You get a debit card.

If you are a non resident you will need to go into a branch to open the account.

I use the Cajamar Wefferent account for cash withdrawals.

I use a Wise account for all my DD.

Brilliant, what would we need to take to open this? Passports, bank statements etc?

As far as I can remember you will need to take your passport, NIE number & proof of address such as a utility bill.

Don't close your Caixa bank account until you have opened your Cajamar Wefferent account.

Make sure that you ask to open the Wefferent account.

Some people on this forum have been persuaded by Cajamar to open a different account.

That is not what you want.

Also get them to help you set up the mobile app while you are in the branch.

Great.
I’ve already authorised PALs solicitors to close it down. not willing to pay any more fees or accept the grief I’ve had with them. Will go to cajamar when over there in the sum

Really useful information

Why do you not use the Wefferent account for your DD’s?

No particular reason.

I just prefer to use Wise.com for all the DD.

I only use the Wefferent account to withdraw cash but I don't really use much cash now.

I just like to keep my options open & keep a Spanish mainstream bank account.

Just in case......

HI

I use Revolut - gives a very good exchange rate when you need it - and N26. The latter gives a Spanish IBAN whereas Revolut is lodged in Lithuania and the foreign IBAN can cause issues. Charges are only incurred for excessive activity - I've never had any but high volume exchanges could incur a cost

Both are easy to use with virtual and plastic cards
