Hi there everyone. I have owned a property for one year in camposol now, and woke up to find that the solicitor who dealt with my purchase (PALS) have taken 130 euro from my account. When I asked them about this, they informed me that it was in my welcome pack for them to handle my Non Resident Taxes each year. Has anyone else experienced this and is it compulsory? I live in the UK and only have a holiday home.

I have PALS do my taxes, and the charge is 130 euros. It ismy choce to use them, it is not compulsory.

You should have had some communication from them asking for information in order to do the required work, if not i suggest you contact them to see why not.

There are other agencies that offer similar services, although my research found them to have similar charges.

Thanks for that. But if I don't live or work there why do I have to do a tax return?

It's not a tax return,  it is a payment on the value of your house in Spain,  it's called none residents tax

It is payable once a year,  based on the Cadastral value of the house

Pals charge you a massive amount for this,  the 130 euros only being Their Fee for doing this transaction

The none residents tax,  will be payable separately

I suggest you get in touch with Spanish Tax Forms for next year,  as then you will have the exact details you need by taking a screenshot of the bill that comes out of your bank account,  it will give you the reference number and the Cadastral Value,  then this can be forwarded to Spanish Tax forms online next year to find out what fee you need to pay as a none resident

Spanish tax forms only charge around 40 euros for this service and they will bill you for their fee, then will tell you how much you owe as a none resident for your home,  this is so much cheaper than the 130 euros that pals will charge you each year and many,  many people will recommend John at Spanish tax forms,  as he will submit your payment to the relevant authority and send you a receipt,  only thing you need to do is show him this years receipt and he does all the paperwork

It's a very good deal all round,  but pals won't tell you this,  they just take and hope you accept this without question,  I wish someone had told me this advice,  many years before,  would have saved me a fortune,  same with your car tax if pals offer to do it, another extortionate fee, for those who don't know any better

Good luck,  tell them to take no more money from your account,  as they just take and make it sound acceptable, without giving you a choice

I had to send them an email  banning them from taking money from my account, it was unacceptable,  taken without my knowledge,  with no request for payment,  just taken, so I called and followed it up with an email,  so I had a paper trail and written proof, then set up Spanish tax forms on a certain date in my calendar each year, to call John to pay my bill

I also went into the council office to set up a Direct Debit for my IBI payment,  I think this if for our equivalent of Council Tax,  but a lot cheaper than the uk

I also set up a Direct debit for my car tax while at the council offices in Mazarron, the staff are very,  very helpful

If you're unsure with your Spanish,  Google Translate is your friend  :)

Hopefully you will already be set up with direct debits through your bank for water rates and electricity,  if not,  please get it done,  pals should have done this for you too,  it's in their fees, so you have already paid for this service

Spanish tax forms online only charge 40 euros for this service,  not 130 euros like pals

Thanks I will investigate this. I thought there must be some way to declare tax directly.

Thank you very much for this advise. They have already taken the money this year but thanks to you I will be cancelling the direct debit they set up to pay themselves from my account. Much appreciated 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

We are non residents and also use PALS. As non residents you are obliged to pay that tax regardless of how often you visit your property.

PALS contacted us and said for an annual fee of 130 they would tax care of everything associated with the non resident tax and advise me by mail of how much and when. For us, it was just another easy option to ensure we stayed fully compliant with the Spanish authorities and was one less headache to worry about

I pay 50 euros for my taxes in Mazarron town. I would never recommend PALS to anyone.
