I think you will struggle to open a Spanish bank account whilst in the UK.
Most banks require you to go into a branch to open an account.
Particularly if you are not a Spanish resident.

I was getting €30 charges for UK transfers in with La Caixa from Currencies Direct.
I contacted CD and they said banks are (deliberately?) mis-interperating the rules and they would refund me the charges and to contact the bank.

I emailed La Caixa explaining this and they refunded me as well and I haven't been charged since.
RESULT.
Well done, same as us, the banks in Spain will do what ever they see fit to get extra money by bending the rules, or making up new ones.

Can I open an account with another Spanish bank whilst in the UK, I am currently with Sabadelland I didn't realise that they are up to their eyeballs with debts?
You can open as many bank accounts as you like, but remember you must declare them to the Spanish tax man under the 720 declaration, or you can be heavily fined.
The 720 was found illegal by the EU court, but the ruling has not been published, so Spain continue with this, and probably will even if it is banned.

Thanks for all the replies, if I wanted can I open another Spanish bank account whilst in the UK?
Hi, We have opened a bank account with Cajamar whilst here in the UK, and transferred funds into it.
We will have to go into the branch when we are next in Spain to collect the debit card, but have internet banking available now.

sdb137, thank you for your advice, but what is this, does it apply to home owners who are non residents?

Hi Frank21 thank you I will certainly check the Cajamar bank out as it sounds ideal.
You need to look at the Cajamar Wefferent account for the free banking.
Unless something has changed recently I don't think you can open it online.
Could be wrong of course........

I think non residents come under a different rule, but of course you only have 90 days to stay before you become liable for tax.
As a non resident you are also liable for tax, now gone up to 20% I think.
Best check it with a solicitor first, do not get caught out, but the 90 day rule is fast, unless you have applied for residence, and the Spanish Consulate has said you will not be forceably removed, but they will work with you to help, as long as you have applied.
