Well Roland, the thing is I bought a new Samsung (android) phone and have been told there is a way of transferring data from my old IPhone but no-one appears to sell the right cable around here.
Also I am not receiving messages on WhatsApp, Messenger etc . There seems to be a problem with the setup and I don't think it's anything obvious or my son would be able to sort it. (Bet you wish you hadn't asked now) Thanks though ...

Yes, these days its rare that someone has not had the same problem as you and you can bet that there is a Youtube video to provide a fix. So Google and Youtube are your friends

There is a chap called Alex Woods - he's an IT professional, interpreter, and I believe repair,sort, IPhones etc. - he's not cheap but he's mobile.
Number is 696 667 182. Worth a try if you don't get sorted.
