Hi

We are looking at driving across from the U.K. to get the best route for our family to drive over to see us.

Any help will be most appreciated

Thanks Roy

Hi Roy,I would suggest taking the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao or Santander, the normally have some good deals this time of year.alternative is to drive from Calais to camposol, it's a long drive and when you add up the miles, fuel costs and tolls there's not much difference

We do the ferry with our cat.

Much cheaper than expensive fuel and tolls in France.

You arrive in Spain rested and it makes the drive to Camposol a pleasure.

Good luck with the trip.

Good advice taking the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Santander (Bilbao I found not so good ) I've booked a economy ferry again, which I found very good .but to be fair  to the Pont Avenue ship that does this route ,the crossing was a smooth one with the economy ship not done it in a storm .You arrive refreshed ,with a 10 to 12 hour drive to Camposol and it goes by quickly.

The Pont Aven by far the best. Well worth paying a little extra. The food is much better and the crew are brilliant.

If you decide to use the ferry pm me and I will get you a discount code.

Be aware going by ship from Portsmouth especially in Winter can be cancelled at short notice (due to bad weather)which happenend to me hence a long journey by road which is a 2 day  journey across France /Spain .Ships are the best ,kennels on top of the ship for the dogs .Take some food with you(just in case ) iveseen crews that are late because of bad weather shut up restaurants /shops on the ship, leaving people no access to food.Take a Travel kettle they are useful in the cabin .Hope this helps .

Ps thanks to the forum giving tips for Midges  and mosquito deterants disipledu excellent from mercadona..

we went from portsmouth to santander by Brittany ferries which highly reccommend. Then we drove to Madrid check Trip Advisor for cheap hotels on outskirts of city abouy 4 hous driving,Then direct to Campasol about another 4 hours so split the journey nicely.Used Sat Nav all the way down.Check online for all the requirements eg safety triangles,Hi Vis waistcoats etc.
