Car Insurance on UK car

When we moved over we sold our uk cars in the UK, rented a car for the first couple of months, then bought a Spanish car. If you do decide to move permanently you will need to do a removal of some stuff from the UK presumably, and if renting you can manage with clothes in suitcases on your flight. We were to live in the campo (countryside) so needed a 4x4, and sold this 12 years later with our house when we moved up to Murcia.

I used to use Saga, no time limit when in the European Union.

We have now bought a new Spanish car so use Liberty Seguros.

We split our time between the UK and Spain doing six months periods and found it was cheaper to insure my car in Spain and therefore getting full European cover including recovery this incurred a 40 € extra but still cheaper than basic insurance in the UK.. The recovery element is not valid in the UK though but it's a fully comprehensive insurance with no time limits either in Spain or UK.

We use Abbeygate insurance which we obtained via the office of Mr Print on sector B commercial area.

I had a UK reg;    Clio   that they covered driving in the UK and Spain      to import a car can be very expensive     

then to buy a car in Spaiñ is very expensive      you do need to be very careful     

I bought a car here from Specalist Vehials  that the engine blew up in less then three weeks   still trying to get my money back 

Hi George—I have my UK reg.car insured with Ibex in the Business Centre on A.Provided you have a valid MOT and pay UK road tax you will have no problems.The advantage of their insurance is the breakdown cover,and you will also have Green Card international insurance cover for Europe and beyond.Regards,Gerry

What GerryB says is correct, as long as you are not resident in Spain, in which case it is illegal for you to drive a UK-registered car, so watch your timings!

Check the validity of the green card in the UK regarding the period it is valid

I discovered it is only valid for 3 months so worth checking if you are in the UK longer

When you do the import of a car together with Residentia (within 6 months) you don't pay Import tax.
