Can anyone help please. I am trying to purchase a Spanish Registered Car on an auction site and have been told that if I win the bid I will need, apart from the obvious things like Passport and an NIE Number which I have, but also a Nota Simple which I don’t. Not every seller on the auction site appears to be asking for one of these. Is it compulsory? I am a non resident so do not have a Padron.

Any advice and where to get one of these Nota Simple that has to be from the Murcia Province and dated within 90 days of my purchase, if I win the auction, would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Flo

Thank you. Is there a company on Camposol that could do this for me? I am in the UK until 25th March and hope to pick up the car in Gibralta. I can fly into Gibralta direct and don’t want to have to come via Camposol if at all possible.

Thank you for your help.

Flo

Hello Flo

May I say after living in Spain for many years and purchasing cars I have never heard of needing a Nota Simple.

As with all auction sites, there are many people who are, to put it bluntly not exactly honest !!  if you give out your personal details ie passport number, NIE and now a nota simple they will have enough information to steal your identity.

I have seen many cars on sites that the offers are amazing, but they are not in Spain at the moment but in another country but can be shipped to you and your money is secure as the transport company will give you a refund if you are not happy ect ect.

Please check the company/seller out before you make any bid decisions.

REMEMBER IF IT IS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT NORMALLY IS NOT TRUE

Please be careful

Kind regards

Ed

Eeeeek

Gosh thanks Ed. I couldn’t work out why the seller needed the Nota Simple when in theory surely it should be ME who needs to know their details rather than the other way around as they will have my money, my NIE, Passport and then proof that I own my house and have done so for the last 90 days. This is turning into a minefield. The car I am interested in is on EBay and is a Kia Picanto currently on £1600.00. It is being sold by someone near Cadiz who has very kindly offered to drive it to Gibralta if I win the auction. I thank you so much for your help. Now I really don’t know what to do.

Is it better to buy in Spain rather than driving a Spanish Reg car from the UK? I don’t know who to trust now!

Kindest Regards

Flo

Hi Flo, I have just bought a car and the only paperwork you need is an NIE and your passport.  To get it registered in your name you will need proof of address, a utility bill or the title deeds.  As a non- resident you should not be signing on the Padron as it is only a legal requirement if Spain is your main residence.  You cannot sign a declaration saying you are a non-resident and then sign on the Padron saying you are. The town hall will allow you to sign as the claim additional funds for you being a resident but in essence this is fraud on your behalf.

There is no such thing as a holiday resident Padron.   Since 2013 there has been a purge in two of the costas and folk have been fined for illegally signing on the Padron and for those who are resident who have not.  Citizens Advice Bureau Spain website has all the details.

Lastly you need to make sure any vehicle you buy is clear of debts otherwise they become your debts.  Sorry if this is very long winded but I have been studying Spanish law in regard to the Padron and there are a lot who think they know what it is you should do without actually checking the legalities of it.👍  John

Dear John

Thank you so much for your help. I was becoming more and more confused about all this and couldn’t think why I needed more than an NIE,Passport and Title Deeds and of course the money.

I have no need to be on the Padron, I just have a holiday home and am fed up with renting a car for the last 12 years and so just want to buy a holiday car. But it feels like a mine field for those who are not resident! Thank you for your time and obvious knowledge.

Flo
