Good Morning.

We are in the middle of buying a property that will be our holiday home for the time being, we are buying on D sector so know we need a car.

Are will able to buy and drive using our UK license or would my husband need to taking a driving test as I see things have changed so much since we left the EU

Many Thanks

Jayne

You will be able to buy a car in Spain as a non resident & use your UK driving licence.

You will not have to take a Spanish driving test.

Completely different matter if / when you become a resident.

Hi

Totally agree with Roland you can use your U.K Driving Licence as a non resident we keep our Spanish Car at Alicante Airport with Plane Parking which is a great service within ten minutes of coming through the airport you are on the motorway driving to Camposol after collecting the car from the short stay Carpark, car prices are higher in Spain but as a non resident your yearly mileage will be lower than your U.K car.

Would there be any problems of buying a Spanish registered car in the UK " as there are alot for sale in uk"

Would there be any problems charges from driving it over, using whilst out there but then leaving at airport I know there is annual fee for that service.

I think you'll find you have to pay import tax if you take a car from U.K to Spain & then fees to register the car in Spain it's a lot easier to buy a Spanish car in Spain, we pay an yearly fee of 400€ to keep our car at Alicanti Airport but this includes unlimited car transfers to Corvera which we probably want bother with for this year which reduces the price to about 325€ you can also have the ITV & services carried by them.

Yeah obviously corvera is ideal for villa, but we operate more flights to Alicante from Luton.

Could you tell me how long the drive is from Alc to camposol please

Even if the car is already Spanish registered but brought here we pay import fees again

It's takes about 1hr 20mins from Alicante Airport to Camposol all on the motorway and normally the it's not busy nice relaxing drive, I'm not sure about importing a Spanish Car from the U.K but Brexit wouldn't have helped the process.

If you buy a Spanish registered car in the UK, there will be no import taxes to pay if you bring it to Spain.

You will, however, need to pay a tax (and gestor fee) to re-register it into your name/address. This fee is the same if you buy the car in Spain or in the UK.

If you buy from a competent/specialist UK dealer, you will probably receive all the necessary documentation, and they might be able to sort out the re-registration for you via "their own" Spanish gestor.

But if you buy privately, be aware that you will need ...

- the car's Permiso de Circulacion (original, not a copy)

- the car's Matricula Certificado (original, not a copy) - which also serves as the ITV (MOT) record

- the previous owner's ID ... passport/Residencia/TIE and Padron (copies)

- a contract of sale signed by the previous owner (it is usual for the previous owner to sign such a contract when selling the car to an intermediary).

You will need to insure the car. Re-registration can take a few weeks in Spain (it isn't an online process, like the UK). So you need a "justification document", to explain to any interested police officer why you have a car that appears to belong to someone else.
