Very helpful member
Look on the web: viamichelin, you can see suggestet routes and it gives you also the price of toll. If it could be that you plan to drive the weekend be aware that also the french planning their drive to/from their holiday destination and trieing to avoid the toll.
Hi Richard,
Erasers right look at viamichelin, there are 3 routes .
I am driving down too in nxt two ,three weeks via Calais to purchase on campo I take the route west avoiding Paris not much difference to other routes A7 most of way tolls ok get automatic toll payment for windscreen (France and think now covers Spain )comes out of bank account no need to carry lots of cash, last time I came down in May (August is holiday time in france it took 17 hrs with breaks via calais cost from Dover including ferry /fuel in fully loaded nissan navara pickup £284.00 good roads especially at night mainly trucks.
Good luck matey
Hi
We drive through France setting off from the port at Dunkirk - we've done it once this summer and will be back out again in a week or so.
Some toll roads may help save time but many of the other roads can be pretty good.
Our route is Dunkirk to Rouen (small toll at Abbeville)
Rouen to Chartres via Evreux and Dreux (ring roads) on the N154
Chartres to Tours on the N10 (this avoids a hefty toll road between Le Mans and Tours).
Tours to Poitiers on the A10
Poitiers to Angoulême on the N10
Continue on N10 to Bordeaux
Leave the Bordeaux ring road (heading west) at junction 22 on the D113 towards Langon. This is probably the slowest bit of the route but by now an slower stretch through some beautiful French countryside and village is welcome.
At Langon head south on the N 924 towards Roquefort, where it changes to the D934 (easy to follow) to Aire -sur- L'Adour. This then becomes the D834 (again very easy to follow) to and Pau. It criss crosses over the A65 but don't join the A road. This is a very quiet and exceptionally beautiful route. We sometimes stop in Pau or Aire-sur- L'Adour overnight.
From Pau pick up the N134 south to Oleron-Saint- Marie and follow the same road with the signs to Zaragoza. This takes you through the Sanport tunnel where you enter Spain. Stunning countryside on the route as you go through the Pyrenees.
The route through Spain is Zaragoza to Teruel (A23).
Tereul to Valencia on the A23
Pick up the ring road (AP7-no tolls) around Valencia. South of Valencia the road 'splits A7 and AP7. Follow the A7, then the A35, A33, N344, A33 and A30 into Murcia. It is actually a seamless route, the roads are pretty quiet and no toll. In Murcia we head to Sucina but you can pick up the RM2/3 towards Campassol. We don't pick up any tolls at all in Spain and minimal ones in France.
Hope this helps and safe travels
Regards
Corinne

You can also pay the tolls by credit & debit card.
Put your card in the machine no need for pin numbers etc.
Get a receipt then you have a record of the cost.
