Driving licences don't have addresses on them but you are obliged by law to update your address, in the event of moving house, on all the relevant government offices. If you have a digital signature you can do this online on the various websites or by using the form below, on which you can tick w...

...hich government departments you want to inform. I think that you can also upload a copy of your new "certificado de empadronamiento" to prove your new address at the same time.

Hola Mags44. Are you talking about a UK driving licence or a EU one, Spanish possibly. I was only referring to a United Kingdom one. I have downloaded a picture of one from a UK source and it certainly does have the holders address on it under item number 8. My query is purely about a UK British licence, but I believe an Irish on is similar. Looking forward to more information.

No, I was referring to a Spanish driving licence as this is a forum for people in Spain. I don't know what the rules are in the UK as I exchanged my UK licence for a Spanish one about 36 years ago!

Reading replies to my question but they all seemed to have gone off topic. My actual question was had anyone heard of u k licences being allowed to be used to drive in Spain for residents yet.. I had heard that an agreement had been made. Obviously still pending I think.

My query was if the address on your UK licence was no longer your actual residence was it legal anywhere . In Spain as you asked, in the EU as a whole or indeed in the UK. If you are  now a resident of Spain then surely your UK licence has false information displayed on it. My query was only about a UK driving licence, not  a Spanish EU one.

You are correct. It does seem that your post was hijacked by another subject. I did post earlier with the most up to date information at the time. Usually the Ambassador posts each Friday with any update. That is on the Brits in Spain Facebook page. It’s worth checking that page.

Hope that helps

The address on a UK license, as far as Police are concerned, must be one that is suitable for the service of a summons.

For example, a student living away from home in temporary accomodation may provide their parents home address.

My niece lives on Australia, but her UK license is registered to her mother's UK address.

The license may be invalid by virtue of not having a current address but if you can show you use the address on it then for the UK Police it is ok.

The N332 Facebook page run by the Spanish Police has recent posts about driving licenses. If you are resident in Spain you must have a Spanish driving license. If you are visiting Spain you can use a UK driving license (unless yours is paper or from the isle of man) and do not need an International Driving License. Some rogue Police officers have been finding visitors for not having an IDL.

Last official comment was that the discussions are still ongoing and that there would be a resolution in August, but find this difficult to believe as most of Spain (and the UK ) will be on summer holiday, so the existing policies are still in effect. ONLY when there is official agreement will the rules be modified. Seems as though the UK are refusing access to DVLA computer base for cross border checks and fines to be checked.

To avoid any confusion this was just a general enquiry, not specific to myself. I have lived in Spain for 18 years and have had a full Spanish driving licence almost 18 years. It was the incorrect address on licences that I queried.

Hi,if you've changed address you can go on line at dgt and update your address.

To the best of my knowledge on the face of a UK driving licence item 8 is a two line record of the holders registered address. Please correct me if I am wrong, it Is more than possible my information is out of date. My original query was concerning the UK driving licence, not the Spanish issued E...

...U  one. The Spanish use the TIE/NIE details to trace you

I have actually just looked on Google for copies of a UK driving licence and several all show the UK address of the holder, again I am quite happy to be corrected.

Maybe we have a member of the Spanish legal society, Police, lawyer etc. Who reads these columns ?.

I have my address on my UK driving licence 🙂

The dgt do not have records of any details of an UK licence so you cannot change anything with them.
