Morning, looking at getting an electric car and reaching out for a bit of guidance before getting a sparky in. Does anyone know of options to charge at home, without the full on cost of a tethered pod? I’m thinking along the lines of a 16 or 32 amp commando socket wired direct from my board to the external wall directly behind. Anyone have any experience of such a thing?

Hi if you choose not to have Charging Pod your car will take a lot longer to charge and probably cost more money, also check what your property is currently rated at this should be on your electric bill as you may need to upgrade to a larger incoming supply. My advice would be to get a quote for a charging pod from a local electrical copy before committing yourself.

Phil.

Iberdrola will give you a free quotation to supply and install an EV charging point and you will need your potencia checking (and probably upgrading) as, depending on the charger, you will be drawing at least 7.5kW and your potencia is unlikely to be that high currently.

Good news is there is a grant of up to €300 currently available.

Hope this helps!

Hello Rich, that is really good to know. As we are only at Camposol for the odd month each year, I felt the best way to go was a bigger amp commando type socket, such as those on caravan parks. I’m getting a pod at home in Uk, but now given the possibility of a grant, I will get a price for one in Spain. I’ve seen a Tesla knocking around Camposol, so might try and flag him down! Appreciate your advice. Thanks.
