Just got back to find we have been charged €350 for a parcel shelf that was never there and a further €60 because we didn't return the car full. I expected maybe a bit off a charge for the fuel as I filled up in Camposol before we set off for the airport. From the car nearly being empty to full to the brim when I set off was only €55!

Too late now but you should have searched Google for 'Goldcar' thousands & thousands of complaints like yours.

€350 where do they buy their parcel shelfs from?.

I'v been renting cars for over 10 years from San Javier Airport and it seems that the rental companies keep trying to come up with different ideas on how to get more and more money out of the visitors. Everytime I'm waiting in the queue I hear arguments about their charges.

I won't pay for their insurance as i have taken one out in the UK for about  £40 for the year.

I've just got a better breakdown of the fuel component. They charged €11 for the fuel and a €50 refuelling charge.

Hi, we posted last week about goldcar charging us €310 for excess kms, however, we emailed complaints and have now been refunded the full amount!!!

Suggest you complain a number of times about your shelf. Unfortunately, it is in the small print about the fuel

Good luck

Hire car problems crop up every day and thankfully a lot of people put their experiences on the internet in one form or another. I've listed the problems I have had including Goldcar, on this site!

Year's ago before the internet we still got ripped off, and it was sheer chance if we got a good deal. Now we have the benefit of the internet, why not do a search before you book.....simple.

Interesting someone on here got a refund from Goldcar, they never answered any of my emails, so I vote with my feet. If we all did that, maybe they would change their attitude. However, when you look at DoYouSpain for instance, and see the ridiculously low prices, these companies have to make their money somehow. In February I got a brand new Citroen C4 for just over 8€ for a week! I returned it full and had to pay the top up fee, but it was still cheap compared with UK prices.

I learnt several year's ago to study the interior as well as taking photos of the exterior before driving off. Get the form marked up and signed, once you exit the car park you're on you're own. Get your own excess insurance, it really is a no brainer.

Just one more point while we are on the subject, try and get a car from a company that doesn't put a large sticker on the car. The age old problem of thieves targeting hire cars seems to be on the increase again. The Goldcar sticker can be seen from many paces! Some suggest removing the sticker, don't do that you might get a massive bill for it!

Forgot to mention high vis vests. Should you be stopped by the police whilst driving they will probably check everything including high vis vests. You are supposed to have one for each passenger in the vehicle, and hire cars only have one in each vehicle! In the past I have asked for another and they have obliged, but if you have several passengers, it pays to pack your own.

Its one of those situations where we will only be caught out once. From now on I will photograph the car inside and out. I have hired plenty in the UK and once or twice in Greece and France and never had any negative experience at all.

No one even came out to the car at the airport, it was night time and quite dark and one of those situations where we were pressing the open button on the keyfob to make the lights flash and find the car.

We just checked the outside, I did notice the parcel shelf missing the following day in the light but thought nothing of it, maybe over there it was even an optional extra. I was irritated by it though as I had to carry around a laptop for work and was aware that it may possibly be seen from the outside.

One thing is for sure, it never even crossed my mind that they wouldn't be aware that there was no parcel shelf, clearly the last time it was checked in it wasn't the same person that did it this time.
