I always use Centuro, never had a problem, in fact last year someone damaged my hire car while parked at Leroy Merlin, made a real mess with a deep 9 inch gash in the rear door.

When I took it back i pointed it out to the Centuro guy and he said don't worry it was there already!  No it wasnt but I wasn't going to argue!

They never did bill me for it so God knows but hey I was well happy.

Like someone said above get annual insurance from the UK its about £40.

Try Centauro, we wouldn't use anyone else. No queueing and inexpensive.

Getting the annual excess insurance is the best idea.

But be prepared for a long nasty argument with Goldcar when you pick up your hire car.

They will also reserve up to 2000 euro on your credit card.

Goldcar took 750 euro from me for supposed damages last summer. Only found out when I checked my credit card statement! When I queried it, they sent some photos of a car with a couple of scratches on it. Registation plate not shown and 'damage' came to exatly 750 - surprise, surprise!

I protested, and requested copy of repair bills, but absolutely no response! (many emails sent by me, but nothing back)

Tried to get my credit card company involved, but despite them requesting further details for the 'fraudulent transaction', they ended up paying Goldcar

Finally got my insurance company involved, but they too, got no response. To be fair, I was reimbursed by the insurance compay, but a harsh lesson learned. Will never use Goldcar again - a bunch of crooks, who shouldn't be allowed to fleece innocent travellers.

Stay well clear!!!!!

I always photograph at collection and allow enough time when returning to get them to check the car in my presence and sign it off. I do that with all companies, and like a hell of a lot of other people, I will never use Goldcar again. The best company I have ever used in Spain is Wiber. The last time I hired from them, the chap put magnetic arrows pointing at marks you could hardly see, and we both photographed them. No problem on return.

Can't relate to some of these. I had an incident on motorway where I hit a lump of steel which fell from a truck. Big ugly open gash in the drivers door. No problems from Goldcar, it was covered by the insurance.

Looks like it depends on what type of insurance you have...

What I experienced was nothing to do with having the wrong insurance cover. rhodium goldcar took further money from my credit card the day after I returned the car without telling me why. I eventually found out that they tried to explain this by saying they had upgraded the car and that there was body damage. Neither of these things happened when I had the car.

I'm so glad that I read this before my visit in May.  Booked with Goldcar via Ryanair, it was ridiculously cheap, but I think that I know why now!!   Anyway, I have now cancelled my booking and made an alternative one with centauro+.  It's a bit more expensive, but they offer an aditional driver + full insurance with no excess and no security deposit.  Fuel is still full/full, but I will be making sure that I photo the car inside & out before we leave the Airport, including the fuel guage.

This is a great Forum, with so much useful information.  My trip in May is to view some small villas for a holiday home and also to play some golf with my son.  Looking forward to our visit.

Goldcar tried to rip me off twice since they stopped doing paper checkin. Last time agent refused to check the car so I followed him around until he did. He said all ok then I got a bill for about £300 for damage that wasn’t there.  Time before they billed for damage that was already there and signed for in pick up!  Both times complaints ignored me so I went to credit card company who reversed the fees. They just try it on if you don’t take their insurance. I have annual policy from home costs about £40 pa. I vowed never goldcar again. Since used hertz and firefly so far so good 😄
