Following on from complaints about goldcar. We have been using them for a little over 18 months and never had a problem, A good service actually. I don't know anyone who doesn't do that. I also take photos at collection and return, when I've had problems with Goldcar and associate companies  " the manager isn't available" is the usual response. I think you were very lucky getting an upgrade, I've only ever had that sort of service in the USA.

Same here. Used Goldcar for 10 years or so. Never an issue, new or almost new cars, excellent service. Insurance expensive but covers everything. Serious gash on door once from flying metal, all covered no problem. Check the prices beforehand and switch off. Who wants hassle on their hols?

you can do a “chargeback” through your credit card company andGoldcar  will have to justify the charge.

I did this when they charged me for damage that was already on the car. I had photos. They failed to convince the credit card company so I got all my money back

Just phone your card issuing and ask to do a chargeback

Good luck, it will take 2/4 months

Yes that works, but it's better if you can point out the damage before taking the car. Photos are essential.

My experience with hiring cars is very similar to others on here. Sometimes it’s goes smoothly and others not so. Last year I hired a large ford from Centauro at Alicante. Picked up the car and drove to Murcia. Around 80 kilometres. Noticed on my journey that clutch was hard to press. I have dodgy knees so took it straight to Centauro in Murcia. They changed it with no issues. Two weeks later after I returned to the UK I was charged €1400 for a new clutch. Many emails later I didn’t have a leg to stand on. Never advised about this. NOTE! BTW I had my own extra insurance just like many people on here recommended. Guess what. Does not cover mechanical damage. Pay extra for all the insurance guys.

Sorry to hear that, but you make an important point and it does raise one or two questions. How old was the car and what was the mileage when you picked it up? Normal wear and tear should be borne by the company as it's obvious that cars are slowly wearing out all the time they're in use. Clutches normally have thousands of miles in them and are considered like brake pads to be a wearing part.

I don't know at what lengths you went to, to object to the bill, but the credit card company (if you paid by card) would or should have an interest in it. I would have asked for a charge back in the first instance.

I too have my own insurance and they have paid out for damage on a couple of occasions, but I'll check out the small print when I renew.....whenever that is.

I would keep trying, I don't think there is a deadline date for claims such as this. Good luck.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

That was me! Hope you are well.

Took me 4 months to get that money back but with help from my credit card people I did a charge-back and recovered my money!!!   Not a company I would trust. They trade under more than one name so it it difficult to know when they are involved in your hire!

Hi everyone I have hired cars many times in Alicante through do you Spain and went with record car hire.last time they tried to bully me into taking the extra insurance.like many others I have a UK policy £46 which covers key replacement and towing .these are the two elements they tried to brow beat me with.did my policy include these.in all honesty at the time of hire I didn't know but out of obstinacy I stood my ground..the elderly couple behind me had insurance too but were talked into buying their extra cover at 85 euros.Shameful tactics from record.they we're rude to me as well.I am using firefly this time full to full unlimited mileage with the 1000 euro credit card deposit .will arrive next Thursday .let the fun begin.

I hired with Goldcar a couple of years ago. I booked the car through Jet2, and also took full insurance cover with Jet2. On arrival at Corvera, i was told that my insurance was worthless, and i had to take Goldcar full cover, or have a 1500 euro charge on my credit card and any damage would result in the money being taken automatically. I gave in and took the Goldcar insurance. I have always used Centauro prior to that, for a lot of years and never had an issue. The lure of a cheaper option was too good to be true, and so it proved, although the agent gave me a card, told me to ring him direct, and he would beat any deal on car hire, but i dont trust them.
