As always with these forum replies some people go off track and never give the advice the person writing is requesting. If you've got nothing constructive or helpful to say PeterC why dont you keep your comments to yourself. You've obviously got nothing better to do with your life than trawl the forums

In answer to your question Jacqueline I dont think anyone really knows what we will or wont need if or when brexit finally happens. I have been looking on line and as far as I can tell there is a reciprocal agreement between Spain and the UK as far as the EH1C card goes. As you've mentioned travel insurance would be a good idea and I suppose we will just have to wait and see what happens after brexit.

If you need anymore advice maybe have a look at the UK government website that has lots of info on it about Brexit and expats abroad

I hope this helps

I also have lots of flights booked to fly into Spain  after the 31st...it doesn't bother me one bit that the UK is leaving the EU .. apparently ...so I have read the use of the EHIC card is set out by individual country agreements that have no concern of Brussels... Spain and the UK already have this agreement in place ..but if you read the information  regarding the EHIC card it says it is for emergency treatment only ..so anyone traveling to Spain should also have a medical insurance in place as well as the EHIC ...I also read that the UK government will still pay the €4,000 per year direct to the Spanish government for every British subject that is of pensionable age that is living in Spain on a permanent basis...not bad at all from a country that so many British expats don't have a good word to say about.
