According to an article in the Daily Telegraph, see link above, our rights for health care etc are protected under the referred to Vienna Convention. Hopefully this is correct.

This article has been posted many times. If you are a spanish resident, working and paying social security then you are coverred. If you are a pensioner it is dependent on the UK government agreeing to continue paying for your health care. Thereas May recently said that she did not know if she could continue to do this, assuming she wins the election.

Just make sure you vote. I received my voting papers today and I am posting them straight back to ensure that they get there on time. Although the return envelope says postage prepaid, make sure you put a stamp on it. When we had the referendum thousands of voting papers from all over Europe were scrapped because people did not put a stamp on them and nobody had told the postal workers to accept them.

In the debate last night all parties agreed that the UK could not continue to fund expat pensioners health care and consequently we should all arrange to return to the UK. This will sink the NHS and the benefits service. Not many of us have kept a property in the UK or have the money to buy into the property market.

Have to say this just sounds like panic mode to me. The Tories have already requested condfirmation that ex pats will be looked after in the same way that those Europeans in the UK will - the EU refused to make any guarantee until negotiations start

Personally, I see absolutely no logic in this agreement not being reached with immediate effect as it calms the whole process and alleviates concerns. I would therefore by extension think something similar will be agreed in respect of NHS cover and treatment but in all honesty with an increasing ageing population this is a problem for any government

I would expect some kind of means tests and those that can look after themselves may lose some cover...?

I am at the moment spitting feathers with this government, every time I just about reach a goal, it is ripped away from me. First they move the goal posts and wont give me my state pension until I am 66yrs old now whereas I was looking forward to it at 60yrs old like my predecessors and now they wont let me live my dream to sell up in the UK and buy a property in Costa Calida.  Done get me wrong, I could buy, but the government will no doubt let me down again and tell me that I cant stay because I have been there over 5yrs.

GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRR.....................

Don't see as you can just blame this government as most of these decisions, like your pensionable age, are based upon decisions/mistakes made by previous governments

Just have to weigh up your options, make a choice and go for it...? KTBFFH

All that the May government say and do is designed to make the pound drop. Already this week they are crowing about the upturn in exports due to the low pound.

A drop in the exchange rate will automatically boost exports. Maybe it is a ploy on their behalf and maybe not. They are entering into tough negotiations and so would welcome any good news and as they pointed out earlier this week - the EU export more to the UK than a number of countries combined

We also hear stories now coming out of Germany about how their economy would suffer if the UK goes for a hard leave so if this drop is intentional then to a degree it is having the desired effect in terms of getting us grabbing peoples attention which may help in the longer term in view of what can be agreed between the UK and Europe...?

With the UK paying around £570 Million to EU Countries over what it received in the 2014-2015 tax year for Ex - Pat Medical any Accountancy led Cost Saving Government Body will look at this as an Annual saving to be ploughed back into the failing economy of the UK.

Cost Saving is everywhere, the suffering of the NHS Patients due to less doctors, fewer nurses and increased costs for Privatised Health nursing, with the MOD tasked with slashing a third of Civil Service Posts, pressing it's current Contractors for identified savings,  cutting defence budgets knowing it has overcommitted in some MOD Contract Ventures but with the UK struggling to maintain it's Security status in the global market, it continues to drag monies from one sector to another whilst increasing its national debt, this cannot continue without a catastrophic failure of the UK Government.

The question really is are those people who have worked their whole lives paying into the UK State System valued by the UK Government vs the savings it makes by negating its commitment to EU Ex Pats as it has done previously in the USA, Canada, New Zealand etc.  I would like to think the proposals are outlined for British People to debate before finalising negotiations on such a key topic.

The Government will then have a financial commitment to Brits Abroad as NHS Tourism becomes the norm with people returning to the UK for medical treatment. The impending collapse of the NHS Services will massively impact all Hospitals. Common sense would prompt a subsidised medical cover in the EU paid to registered UK residents ....... but when has this or previous Government bodies acted with Common Sense.

This is but one challenge in the debate of UK residents in the EU and we will hear much more both sensible or otherwise but I would rather be in Spain than the UK for sure.

I wonder how many Brits can afford full private health cover if the worst comes to the worst? The houses will be near impossible to sell and could only be used as holiday homes or for  182 days a year.
