A British subject that also has a Irish passport  is only permitted to live in the so called EU for183 days out of any 365 day period they are also required to have full medical insurance as they can't use a British GHIC ..if you have a British passport you  can stay in Spain for 90 day...

...s out of any 180 day period  totaling 180 days out of any 365 day period you can use the British GHIC and get free medical care whilst in Spain.

if British /Irish passport holder stays in any part of the EU for longer than 183 days they will need to pay taxes to that EU country .. another thing you have got to take into consideration is that Spain does not recognise dual nationality also a citizenship has got to be applied for usually after 10 years you also need to take a citizenship test /speak Spanish ...

Thank you it’s probably going to be next year hopefully we have all our paper work sorted out at the earliest, so just now I’m taking Spanish classes hopefully I’ll have a good understanding of the language by the time my paper work is sorted , I would like to work a little while I’m in Spain, to beat the boredom, as I’m only moving to help to look after my aunt who is moving over , to have more sun in her life . Thank you all information its truly appreciated Hugh

I hope everything goes well for you...it sounds like you intend to live more than the permitted 183 days for a Irish passport holder...if that's the case you are going to need proof of income to make you application to stay in Spain...I am not to sure how much a Irish passport holder would need in funds as proof of income to make such a application...you will definitely need private health insurance...if you are a British subject that wants to live permanently in Spain then you would need proof of income of approximately €25,000 for a single person or approximately €30,000 per married couple and a private health insurance that covers you...I can't see this being any different for a Irish passport holder ..but maybe I am wrong as the so called EU seems to make rules up as and when .. enjoy the sunshine while you can.

I contacted some companies here who I worked for ,they’ve said if I speak Spanish they’ll transfer me over as logistics manager for them when I get the proper documents and visas , And a couple of coach companies said I can drive for them doing tours and be a relief driver from Alicante and switch over at Dover , I’ve also been looking into some small commercial properties to open a small barber shop and a cafe in traditional Spanish areas , not to make big profits if they make enough money to stay open ,that’s ok it’s more about getting involved with the Spanish communities. I’m trying to learn about Spanish commercial properat the moment, but again it will be a lot more easier once your in the country, to learn the different ways and new cultural ways people do things . Again thank you for any information it all helps

A passport issued by any member EU state grants freedom of movement within the EU. It IS essentially an EU passport and is commonly referred to as such, throughout the EU.

https://www.apply.eu/passport/

They are extremely valuable and so many UK citizens have lost the rights that were once granted. Fortunately, I'm not one of them.

The pictures show the front cover & an inside page of mine.

I would suggest that anyone who wishes to come to live in Spain, should acquire one, if at all possible. Citizenship of a number of EU states is available to many, through inherited rights.

I have owned  couple of villa's in Spain over the last 17 years and have seen many many come to Spain hoping to get a job to help with living expenses... these people tend to last around 2 years and then go back due to not finding a legal paying job ...the unemployment is very high in Spain and the majority of jobs on offer tend to be as and when required/ cash in hand...so please think long and hard before making the move.

Thanks Hugh

If it looks like an Irish Passport it is an Irish Passport…..but I agree it’s a good thing to have.

Hugh, you won’t have any problem getting into Spain but if you intend working/staying here on a permanent basis then there are steps you need to take so make sure you get advice from the right people/professional. Good luck with it all.
