Officially our UK driving licences are valid for car hire until 31st December 2020 (or longer depending on the outcome of Brexit negotiations). I've collected a hire car a couple of weeks ago (from Record Go at Alicante) using my UK licence with no questions.

However getting a 1949 IDP would be prudent, costs £5.50 and takes 5 mins in most UK post offices.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Rich just what I’m thinking £5.50 nothing to settle mind and it lasts a year

I agree with Rich, though you don't actually need one yet, for the money, it must be worth it for the peace of mind.
