We have had to put on hold for a year now, moving over to Spain due to Covid. Now Brexit has been finalised I hear that we will no longer be able to re locate?  Could anyone please let me know if our dreams have now been demolished or if the info we have been given is false?

We were going to sell up here and relocate buying something outright so no mortgage and living on our pensions.  What we were told is that you have to have a £2000 per month income to be able to move there but it doesn’t cost £2000 per month to live with no debt?

Thank you for reading this and I will look forward to any input

Maxine & Paul

I am very sorry to tell you that your information  is correct. The minimum income for an individual is just over €2k per month. For a couple it is more. I think €2800. You have to prove that you will not be a drain on the Spanish government.  Out of that money, you have to pay for private health insurance and buy your medication in full. If all the income you have is your government  pension then I do not think you will qualify.  I suppose it could depend on how much you are expecting to make on your house. P,ease go to the Spanish government  rules and read up Shengan  rules.

Sorry, but what you have read is fact. You will need an income of at least €25k per annum, or a large fortune, to qualify for permanent (5 years anyway). Yet another benefit of Brexit?

Have you also heard  that you now have to have a military agreement to buying a property this close to the coast??? Evidently it applies to those living in a 3rd area country. Which of course we are now.

My understanding is it applies to the purchase of rural land not urban, and has done so for many years for non EU residents. Unless you're considering buying a farm or large areas of rural land, no one on here should be worried.

That will teach me to only read headlines. Sorry rma44 and Bhamoggy.

Hi Maxine and Paul,

The website solicitorsinspain.com has all the info you need. It’s not as bleak as people would have you believe. Bear in  mind that you can probably buy a house  here for less than you get for your house in UK so the excess funds would help get you up to the yearly income requirement.

Hope you can find a way to make your dreams come true.

In relation to must have a combined INCOME of 33,600 euro. Is it right, that all that is needed to fulfil this requirement is a bank statement showing this amount in your bank on 1 given day per year?

I need to know this. We plan to move soon. Was going to be this year but more likely next year once covid is hopefully put to bed.
question is do we have to show 32k or do you have to show 32k every year for those 5 years?
