Hello

Has anyone had a bad experience with tiger mosquitos this summer?

My husband thinks he was bitten by one at the end of August and ended up with Viral Meningitis and is now terrified to return to Spain in case he gets bitten again. He really was very ill. I remember seeing leaflets in the petrol station on Camposol warning people about this nasty insect but never imagined that it would be quite so bad. Has anyone else been affected by this?

Many Thanks

Flo

Yes.

We have had our place on A now for 15 years.

When we first bought the villa we never ever had a mosquito problem.

In the last 5 years or so they have become worse & worse.

This year the worst yet.

We have been bitten lots of times by the Tiger mosquito & seen lots of them & swatted lots of them !!

P.S.

I don

This article on the CRA website although it remains to be seen if the bloke driving about in the vehicle actually does any good !!!

I don't think that the mosquito can cause Viral Meningitis. Could just have been  very unlucky coincidence I think.

You can blame Mazarron council for the mosquitoes on Camposol they use to spray regularly in the summer months ..but stopped around 5 year's back due to cut backs..and yet they collect over 1 million euros in IBI per year from Camposol.... don't let this keep you away from Camposol ...just remember to close all the windows before you put the lights on in the evening...and always spray your bedroom about 1 hour before ...you go to bed and keep all windows close.

Or plumber has been very ill after a tiger mosquito bite, he was even hallucinating and nearly in a coma. Now he has to take medication during a whole year.  I myself am allergic to all mosquito bites, I get big red bumps and it itches like hell. I was told to spray with RELEC EXTRA FUERTO to protect from mosquitos and if you've been bitten to put ALLERGICAL UNGUENTO ( both in pharmacy).

Oh wow! Thank you SO MUCH for this advice. As soon as I get back to Spain I will be heading straight to a farmacia to buy both these products. I wonder why they are not advertised more.

Thank you anyway, hope your poor plumber is getting better!

Of course the RELEC contains 50 % DEET which is not very healthy, but the only product that works. What do you do if they eat you alive ???

My wife is one of those people who mossies   just seem to love biting! She recommends tea tree oil for after bite treatment, used it myself recently and it certainly seems to do the

I tried everything and nothing works. I'm really allergic. I'll have to see a doctor for some pills. I'm up since 2 am :-(

Sorry to hear about DH, Flo58 and your plumber, Lydia1953 Hope they are both well soon. Last month I was bitten alive by mosquitos. They're not in the house as we have mosquito shields on all the windows. I was bitten at dusk sitting in my neighbours garden. I used jungle fever extra strength and it didn't work. The bites were so itchy they kept me awake at night. Never been bitten like this before in spain!
