Good morning,

My name is Mac and my wife Joy.

We are looking to come to the camposol area for a 3 month look around with a view to finding somewhere to rent

sort of semi permanently. Not sure on the rules for that,. I believe that the max stay is 3 months before you have to leave the country and for how long ??? could you just go into Portugal for a week or so???

We did visit and play your golf club some few years ago and really enjoyed the course but it all looked very quite in the area infact i dont think the hotel was open then. Despite this bloody covid (sorry) it does get to you!!! have things picked up are there signs of that?

Are there many properties free for long term rent in the area??

finally for the time being can anyone tell me the golf membership and green fees please. we did try and look at the club site but it does not apper to be up and running, another bad sign.

Many thanks in advance for an info forthcoming

Mac n Joy

Assuming you are British ...

The new rules are 90 days in any rolling 180.

So, after 90 days, you must leave the EU/Schengen zone (no popping off to Portugal or Gibraltar for a few days).

You can't re-enter the EU for another 90 days.

Again ... assuming you are Bitish ...

"Residencia" acquired a whole new level of bureaucracy and cost on 1.1.21.

For "Residencia", now read "Visa".

I won't bore you with the gory details, but the headlines ...

You/your partner need to demonstrate (between you) 33k Euros of available income/funding in year 1. Then 66K Euros of available income/funding twice more before your visa becomes permanent after 5 years.

You need criminal records checks. You need health checks.

If you are below UK retirement age, you need private healthcare (we are in our early 60s and we pay 2k Euros/year between us).

I'm not sure, now, if you will qualify for Spanish NHS at age 66, but you will qualify after 5 years of Residency.

You lose all but emergency access to the British NHS.

You have to switch to a Spanish driving licence (possibly a new test).

If you leave Spain for >6 months in a year, you lose everything that you have paid for - your visa becomes null and void.

The thread below goes on a bit, but contains good info.

Spanish Consulate Update - application and income requirements, post Brexit - confirmation, Non-Lucrative Visa.

PS ... if you are well-set financially, you will very probably pay higher income tax in Spain.

Hotel is still closed. Golf course is open. Lots of places to rent. Good luck now getting residencia.
