Hi All

If anyone can enlighten me it would be greatly appreciated.

I’m looking at buying a left hand drive car in the UK that has Spanish plates.

Would I have to pay import tax or the like if I was to take it back to my home in Spain and what would I need to do that makes everything legal once I have it back in Spain?

Thanks

John

hello John ,I did this as I found a place in Basingstoke that had Spanish registered cars for sale . Mine was still registered in Spain and I had to do a transfer of ownership which was in the region of around 400 euros , I got somene to do it for me so probably paid a bit more but less hassle.

If you google LHD cars for sale in the UK, you'll get a lot of leads. For an example The London LHD Centre has loads, some Spanish registered. If not they will do it for you. Best not to take a RHD car to Spain and put it on Spanish plates. Costs a fortune, depending on car, and you end up with a virtually unsaleable RHD drive car. Hope that helps.

Hello. Could you tell me what the 400 euros covered? Thanks Sean

Hi I did exactly the same!! I bought a left hand drive Spanish registered car from a Nottingham based LHD car sales garage. It had all of the paperwork required to bring with me, plus they got me a handbook for the car in English. The deal was much better than I would have found here in Spain, as we all know second hand cars here hold their prices very well here. Plus they took my English car as part exchange.

When I got here my Solicitor registered the car in my name, it cost a little more at 800 euros, but the car was only just a year old.

Hope it helps!!
