Hi everyone hope you're looking forward to some freedom. We are thinking of buying a little house ...if we can ever get out to view! It'll be for regular Holidays only not to live.

We have not got a Spanish Bank Account. Is having this essential? I have an NIE is there anything else to get?

Thanks

Yes, you will need a Spanish bank account to pay the direct debits on your home (utilities, council tax, Non-Resident-Tax, etc.).

I recomend you get a Spanish solicitor, who will sort out your bank, utilities transfer, etc. as part of your house purchase service.

You can then retain your solicitor as your "fiscal representative" to oversee council tax (SUMA) and Non-Resident-Tax.

Thank you for that. Any of the bank's better than others? Do they require a minimum monthly payment?

You do most definitely do NOT need a Spanish bank account.

You can set up all your Spanish direct debits with Transferwise, utility bills, tax, vehicle tax etc etc.

If you really want a Spanish bank account look at Cajamar Wefferent account NO charges at all.

Have a look at this thread Pauline has all the Cajamar Wefferent account info here.

I opened an account on her recommendation & info.

This sounds great I use TransferWise as my son is in Australia and found them excellent.

I'll have a look at the free banking thread

Many thanks

Hi Roland how did you find the process of moving all the direct debits over to the new bank account and closing the other? Did you do it in person or online please as we are looking to close our sabadell account but very wary about the direct debits. Thank you

I took the easy way out & instructed my solicitors to change the direct debits over.

I had to close my Bankia bank account in branch.

You need to contact the companies that you want to change the bank details with.

Some you can do online just by going into payment details & changing the bank details.
