Good day,

Now I realise living in the heart of thousands of acres of farmland can be rewarding, but today (2/12/2025) it comes with an unpleasant side. We have been unable to sit in our garden due to the smoke pollution. Coming back form Puerto de la Mazarron, I couldnt help but notice multiples vast plumes of smoke almost certainly as a result of burning vegetation. With a prevailing Southerly breeze, I would say very few residents on sector D and C, possibly B also have escaped this. Anyone with breathing difficulties, for example, Asthma and suchlike are quite literally being put in danger by these reckless firestarters. Surely this cannot be legal, we are being told weekly about pollution, how are they getting away with it and is there any course of redress?

There was a lot of smoke from the eco park off the motorway yesterday that was blowing in Camposols direction.

Farmers are allowed to burn certain months of the year. We have got used to it and dont forget owners will be now lighting their log burners.

Are you for the biogas plant or against. Interesting debate on that.

Boeren mogen 1 dag per week stoken denk ik. Maar daar houden ze zich natuurlijk niet aan.

This is the time of year when fruit trees are pruned so farmers burn the cut branches.

Who do you think was here first? The farmers or the residents of Camposol?

Did you enquire about the realities of life in the countryside before you bought your property?

A few times each year farmers burn the branches & twigs from where they have trimmed various fruit and nut trees - in my area, it's mainly almond & olive trees. They may also burn off other waste vegetation at the end of the harvest periods. The ash is good for the soil, as it contains, amongst others, potassium & calcium. The carbon emissions are classed as 'circular', as the trees will have absorbed carbon in their lifetime and are now emitting less through burning - this is why power stations in the UK, such as Drax in Yorkshire, can burn wood pellets and why people can use wood and pellet burners, as they are not unlocking carbon from coal, oil & gas that has been 'stored' for millennia.

These are not 'reckless' fire starters', just farmers doing what farmers have done here for hundreds of years - and I don't think you have any right to challenge them...
