Hi All

Could anyone please let me know what me and my wife would need in income per week  to be able to live a comfortable but not extravagant lifestyle we don't smoke or drink and will own our house outright .just a rough estimate please would be great. Thank you very much

Too many different views on what constitutes a comfortable lifestyle!

Why not copy the sort of list that they use on the "Wanted Down Under" tv programmes - list everything you would want to buy, then go window shopping in a few supermarkets. Things like IBI, energy bills, water, insurances and tax will depend on what sort of property you want to live in and where it is.

A pretty good guide is the basic requirements for an NLV - €36000 per year for a couple.

People very often ask this question while coming from countries where the cost of living is much higher than in Spain. That makes me wonder, are you struggling financially where you are living now? If that is the case moving to Spain might not be the best move. Take into consideration that your income might be high enough to live relatively comfortable in Spain at this moment but what about in 10 to 15 years? If you are on a fixed income you'll find that life gets harder and harder financially over time (inflation, increasing prices). At some point you might be forced to look for a job to make ends meet. Unfortunately it's not easy to get a job in Spain, and if you do find a job your wages will probably be alot lower than you are used to. Something to consider.....

The first thing to ask would be, are you British? If you are , then, there is no more freedom of movement,  unless you already have your TIE,  ( unlikely) you will require a certain yearly income before being allowed to move here. Unfortunately this is quite high.  As PeterC says it will be over £30 k for a couple.

A pretty good guide is the basic requirements for an NLV - €36000 per year for a couple.

The NLV requires proof of 'means of maintenance' - i.e. able to live on c.€36,000 per annum - which you would definitely need to be able to prove to obtain a NLV.

However, I would expect to live comfortably as a couple on €25,000 per annum.

As other posters have said, probably best to think about what you would want / need to live on in the style that you want in the UK and consider that as the same in Spain...

You do not have to give up on spending quality time here altogether. Whatever your income you are still eligible to come on holiday for 3 months at a time. Don't try to buy - rents are reasonable. especially in the Port. The IBI will be the responsibility of the landlord. also the  utilities are sometimes included in the rent too - depends who you are renting from. - Legal or illegal for 3 months it won't matter to you. You won't need a car in the Port.( You will in Camposol). The language can be solved with a few important phrases learnt before you come. and Google translate on your phone. The Port has all the ambiance of unspoilt Spain (Camposol has none). You will eat a little differently if you are smart. maybe less meat, but fruit, vegs, and salads are still very cheap. Fish is a good bet, tinned is as good as fresh The beaches can all be walked to, there are more bars and restaurants to choose from in the Port. Choose your time wisely, avoid the horrible heat of July/August, and you will think you've found Paradise. If you have property in UK , let it out short term and you live here for nothing. Why not think about it!

Well said I live in France and was going to buy a holiday home in Spain but after renting we have decided that’s the way to go a couple of months in spring and again in autumn Feel sorry for people in Uk that want to move to Europe since Brexit it’s very difficult now

Oh yes, - I've been here 20 years now, and if I had to choose all over again I would divide my time between Spain and UK, for economic reasons but hindsight is a wonderful thing .
