Moved in last July. Only portable heaters left by previous owners. Have bought gas heater but if on high enough to warm the place before bedtime it eats the gas. (Just over a week for whole cylinder.). Would like to try logs but need to know what equipment you need to burn them in fireplace and where to buy it. (Have checked chimney is clean.)  Bit cheesed off as colder than I was in UK! Any advice gratefully received.

Get a pellet burner installed. We did, best thing ever, great heat output and easy clean up. We booked our fitting back in June for October, may be pushed to find a fitter free now, guess they are going to be busy. Try Neil at Solpellet, great service and good work.

Thanks for quick reply. Pellets do seem to be popular but worried what cost is involved.... may have to wait till next winter. 😕

Ours is an 11kw model supplied and fitted for about 2500€, I did the modifications to the fire surround myself. Lower output and freestanding models are also available. We are running ours for about 5 hours a day and get through 2 bags or so of pellets a week, about 10€ worth.

Was supposed to read ‘for now - pardon the pun.’  This site cuts it short sometimes!! Have actually bought a fleecy dressing gown today! Lol

I've been in a few Spanish houses  Most wouldn't have any fireplace. They often put a long table cloth on that reaches the floor. They sit around the table with their feet under the table and a small electric fan heater. Warm as toast!!!

Hi Cat we have been buying sacks of logs for €8 and kindling for €3 a sack from the garden centre on A on camposol. Places can deliver for large quantities. We just use kindling and fire lighters and logs. It's quite easy to get going once you get the hang of it. Make sure you have a carbon monoxide monitor. I wouldn't use the gas heater as they cause a lot of condensation. Sooty and son would advise you and I would recommend them if you havent had the fireplace professionally looked at 1st. Good luck keeping warm.

Thanks so much for that. I’ll probably follow that route then for this year!!
